Od dob, kdy se psala původní příručka pro překladatele, se pár věcí změnilo. Překladatelský tým GNOME má nyní novou a podrobnější příručku. Není kompletní — stále přemýšlím, co přidat — ale doufám, že pomůže dalším zájemcům o překlad začít překládat.

@eltonfc It is interesting, I have never really thought of it. Swedish native speaker, and the infinite and imperative forms are (mostly) identical also in Swedish, so I haven't made the distinction.

But thinking of it, it's imperative, as I am commanding the machine to do something for me: "Open the (expletive) file".

As a software translator, I haven't thought of it either, but the imperative form comes naturally (and I follow the lead from other software as far as possible).

The biggest hurdle translating is when there are adjectives, as these are inflected by gender, so a menu item like "New" can have several forms in Swedish, and is often translated as "Create", which cannot.

Around a year ago, I started lazy‑l10n as an AI Bro project. Now it has nothing to do with AI; it simply extracts translation history from Subversion using a Bash script and allows translation‑example searches by associating with committer, last used time, and subproject using plain SQL. #l10n #llm

A truly European software forge would fully respect the diversity of natural languages. In addition to having a fully localized user interface, it would support automatically translating all user-generated texts, so that people could work in their native or preferred language instead of having to use English.

Thanks to bug fixes in #Flutter 3.41, if you set the #+LANGUAGE: appropriately in your Org document, you can get the correct CJK glyphs for your specific locale.

(Previously this only worked on Android. I wish I could find the bug ticket for iOS.)

It’s sometimes *so* frustrating #English speakers cannot understand that a) one English word can acquire many distinct translations, or b) several differing English words can be translated with one and the same word.

Today’s pet peeve: “#shortcut”. In @Vivaldi, it stands not only for ’a special key combination’ but also ‘an icon on the speed dial tab’. In Finnish these require different translations; however, no hints are provided by the developers as to which one is meant. #localization #l10n
