  1. Microsoft: We're killing Windows 10. EOL. No support. You must use Windows 11. Windows 10 is unsupported after October 2025. Dead. Don't use it.

    Users: But Windows 11 sucks.

Microsoft: Okay, we'll do an Extended Security Updates package that you can easily get for free. But only until October 2026. And THEN it is EOL. Dead. No support. Don't use it. Move to Windows 11.

Users: It's three months until the new EOL and Windows 11 still sucks.

Microsoft: Okay, we'll extend the Extended Security Updates package. But only until October 2027. AND THEN it really is EOL. Properly dead. Really no more support. Absolutely do not use it. Move to Windows 11.

  3. Updates to policy regarding Launchpad PPA distribution method

We have updated the policy regarding the distribution method of the Launchpad PPA packages for our applications, after careful consideration. This policy change is necessary to ensure that users are more aware about our support policy for end-of-life (EOL) versions of Ubuntu, where we don’t provide support for those versions.

Starting from today, Ubuntu users who are using EOL versions of Ubuntu and plan to install our applications with the official Aptivi PPAs will no longer be able to install them to their Ubuntu systems. We have deleted the packages that pertain to EOL versions of Ubuntu to increase awareness of our support policy.

We don’t provide official support for our applications that are running on end-of-life Ubuntu versions, according to our policy as mentioned in the support policy page in our docs.

For more information, please consult the Aptivi Newsroom article.

  5. "Dependabot no longer supports Python version 3.9, which has reached its end-of-life. If you continue to use Python 3.9, there’s a risk that Dependabot will not create pull requests to update dependencies. If this affects you, please update to a supported release of Python."

  7. Terminaux 6.1.x and 7.0.x EOL Reminder

When Terminaux 6.1.x and 7.0.x were released, we gave them the dates that we are expected to stop providing further updates for these version series. Terminaux 6.1.x focused on adding wrapped writers and modern argument parsing from the Nitrocid codebase, which was an improvement over version 6.0.x that added many features. Meanwhile, v7.0.x focused on adding more features while restructuring critical parts of code and improving the writers.

We are, hereby, announcing that every project that uses both Terminaux 6.1.x and 7.0.x needs to be aware that the end of life date is reaching closer. We have assigned the end of life date for both version series to August 5th, 2026.

We recommend that every project migrate from v6.1.x and v7.0.x version series to the v8.x version series for continuous support, because we are now providing long-term support for the latter version series, as we explained here.

After August 5th, 2026, we won’t provide any new security updates and other updates to v6.1.x and v7.0.x.

We have prepared a migration guide in the GitBook docs in the below links. If you are running Terminaux v6.1.x, you’ll have to perform both steps 1 and 2. However, if you are running v7.0, you can just perform step 2.

Migration guide to v7.0 (step 1) Migration guide to v8.x (step 2)

Terminaux 8.0 adds audio cues, global password mask for inputs that are related to passwords and other secrets, support for hidden commands, and more features, as well as improvements and bug fixes. Since then, various incremental versions have been released, with v8.4 being the latest for adding support for FreeBSD systems.

  8. @simontatham I find endoflife.date extremely useful for such information, it has almost all projects (and some hardware like smartphones too) and one can guess most URLs:
