  1. What does bootc look like when it's actually running in production, not just in a lab? James Harmison joins the Fedora Podcast to talk about building custom bootc images across wildly different contexts: NVIDIA drivers, AGX Orin hardware with custom kernel RPMs, replacing RHCOS images in OpenShift, and even a stripped-down SteamOS-style couch gaming rig.

  3. I still hold my preference for #ZorinOS for PC newcomers, #Bazzite for gamers, and #LinuxMint for Windows refugees.

For people needing for something rock solid and stable like a rock, #VanillaOS.

For those who want Linux on hardware released last month, #Fedora (personally, I prefer #Bluefin or #Aurora).

  4. and here it is, after asking on the matrix channel dev Tim Ravier pointed me here pagure.io/releng/failed-compos

    and logs kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/com

Useful to see what is appearing in testing composes and when and why your testing branch box hasn't received anything in weeks 😆

  5. I've asked this before, and I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but is there anywhere on the build servers to monitor when a new has completed? something like or ? maybe with a diff list?

  6. So... instead of going back to #FedoraAtomic, I'm going over to... #lix. Well tomorrow I'm going over to.

I'm on #NixOS now and the idea of going from #nix to lix intrigues me. It's just a change of the underlying tooling that interacts with the nix store, but I'm fascinated by the idea that you can compose NixOS using whatever tooling that works with it.

The nix store is then fully decoupled from nix and nixpkgs, making it more a competing standard against #ostree.

  7. Help us test Fedora IoT and Fedora CoreOS for the release of Fedora 41!

If you're familiar with Fedora Atomic Desktops, then these editions will not seem so different aside from the server use case.

Both test days are running from today, Oct 7 to Friday, Oct 11.

  8. Just in time for the weekend, I've completed the initial work to create Live installation ISOs for Fedora Atomic Desktops!

This is using the Live ISO support in Kiwi.

  9. We're making progress on Fedora Atomic Desktops support for Fedora Asahi Remix!

Initial experimental images and instructions coming soon!

  10. Introducing Fedora Atomic Desktops

    fedoramagazine.org/introducing

Personally, I think that such atomic desktop distributions are the future of Desktop Linux.

I found those much more stable and user friendly in terms of system upgrade time and overall user experience. I've recommended Fedora Silverblue in particular to a number of my friends and they were totally satisfied with it.

  11. Oh, #fedora #Silverblue "and friends" is now rebranded to fedora Atomic Desktops which, yes, is a much better name to gather them all!

@fedora uses #FedoraAtomic as the hashtag associated with it, although I find #AtomicDesktop almost even more appealing -- only making me ask, when do we get #MolecularDesktop :-p

Upside about FedoraAtomic is ofc that there's no confusion as to whether to use singular or plural form and it brands it with fedora.
