  1. Here's a little chatty video where I show off my current experimentation with the XFCE desktop environment.

Video length is about four and a half minutes.

I removed some of the panels and panel items. Replace the menu with Rofi launcher. Added tiling features to XFCE with the 'coretile' program.

Oh, for sure. I was just talking about what was default or selectable in the default install between Ubuntu 2010.04-(ish) and the most recent Ubuntu Mate at the time.

I suppose if someone really wanted to, they could just yoink the theme files off the classic Ubuntu iso. ;)

Honestly, with a decent launcher like #rofi, Mate could be quite a nice little environment.

  3. Rofi

If you’re a Linux user looking to supercharge your workflow with a fast, customizable, and versatile launcher, look no further than Rofi. Rofi (short for "Runner Of Everything") is a lightweight, extensible tool that started as a window switcher but has evolved into a multi-purpose utility.

  4. A fairly slow morning. Worked on my #Laravel project.. and then I got the OG #Starcraft running on #Fedora 43 in #Sway with #Rofi and all that good stuff.

I think I'll go out on the balcony and read some after lunch.

    😌 aaah...
  5. Alhamdulillah, I started HyprLTM-Net as a personal project for my Hyprland setup, which by the way I am still quietly improving, and now it has become a real open source project used by hundreds of users.

And even better, I keep taking care of it like a little baby (I am a father). This time, I’m more than happy to announce the availability of HyprLTM-Net v0.3.0, which comes with numerous new features, fixes, and improvements.

  6. I like #rofi so I created a neat little station launcher for #somafm
    Get it here: github.com/toxision/somafmplay
It let's you either select or randomly pick a station, playing it in the background using #mpv

If you want, let me know what you think. Thanks! 🫶

  8. Using the right kind of “boost” you can turn Rofi into an hypercharged bar.
100% legal, zero rehab required, and dangerously addictive in the nerdiest way possible :)

  9. since the early days of #opera ... I am huge fan of #speeddials

therefor I created a html version for browsers and a #rofi version.

Lot of vibe-coding with #kagi, but works for me.

now my #niri setup is almost 😅 done..

    dotfiles will be updated later...

  10. Can someone look at this script and change to sort by bookmark folder. Currently it sorts by bookmark id.

    github.com/ant-arctica/rofi-bo

Would be great to build a bookmark speedial in #rofi for #librewolf / #firefox

  11. oh #rofi ... you greatest tool :) #wallpaper and launcher :)

...and this is such a great source of inspiration: github.com/adi1090x/rofi

  12. CW: mention of suckless, fascism

    I have an obscure problem.

I really like #dmenu for its simplicity and functionality.

But I don't like nazis. And I'd really like to use software that isn't made by them.

I've tried configuring and using #rofi but I just don't like it. Has anybody found an X11 launcher with the same feel as dmenu, but with devs that are less bent on seeing people like me dead?

  14. Somebody interested in a little #somafm radio #rofi script?

    Features:
    - it plays in background
    - select a station (first it kills any playing station)
    - select random station (first it kills any playing station)
    - only stop all playing stations

    Requirements: rofi (😜), $emojifont, mpv
    #lightweight

Of course the best is, to bind it to a keyboard shortcut
So if anyone wants it, let me know. But I think there are dozens of such scripts already out there....

  15. I love #niri so much. In combination with #rofi ... so easy to a scale dialog, that stores the factor in the kdl file.

  16. nearly done with #rofi in #niri ... dmenu, power, clipboard and wallpaper

    rofi is just amazing :)

  17. @slesa
just remove the menu, who needs them anyway. Personally I replaced it with #rofi 🤓
    #xfce

  18. This is a great source for modding #rofi stuff for #niri (github.com/adi1090x/rofi)

    Done drun and powermenu (dmenu)

  19. [Update: I still love the ideas in I3 and Sway, but at the end of the day lack of any kind of accessibility options moved me over to @kde ]

    You guys ... #i3wm + the #rofi application runner/window switcher.. I think I'm in love :)

Finally something that doesn't shower me with visual input I can't process and don't need and lets me move from desire -> action with the absolute minimum effort/keystrokes.

    This stuff is GENIUS.

  20. #viernesdeescritorio Mi #debian13trixie luciendo gnome con el plugin de pop shell que es el que mas productividad me da. Lanzador #rofi. Mi #thinkpadT470p vuela.

  21. I had a fantastic experiance last week using ( specifically) to generate a script that helps me install on my desktop. Appimages are these weird files that don't seem to play nicely with the package managers we know and love. They require manually moving to a directory and then creating a .desktop file so that your launcher ( in my case) can find it.

    The resulting script here: github.com/vitallish/dotfiles/

    Seems to work with !

Autre chose ?

  23. Ok, this is confusing...

When I run #NeoVim from any terminal, it has a white background, just like my terminal.

When I run neovim from a terminal started by launcher like #rofi or #fuzzel, it has a gray background.

    This is both in #Debian linux + #Swaywm and #OpenBSD + #i3wm.

    So confuzzled.

    Update:

Found a workaround by adding this to my init.vim:

"Set basic colors to override weird gray background when COLORTERM=truecolor
    hi Normal guifg=#000000
    hi Normal guibg=#ffffff

  24. @xuxxux For this deploy script this delay isn't important.

But I'm using a custom shell script to display a big #rofi menu.

And after I rewrote this script with the #elisp for #eshell — the menu didn't pop up right after the keypress. There is a noticeable and irritating delay :dragnangry:

  34. replace #rofi with #fuzzel ... again. #rofi is more powerfull, but sometimes freezes my system for 1-2 seconds (#opensuse).
#fuzzel is just simple an works fine

  39. Today I had some fun working on my #JWM and #Compton configs today. I have most transparency effects set up how I want but I am still having difficulty with setting up exemptions. I will keep tinkering.

On another note, for my peeps that use #Rofi, what is a good noob friendly place to find information on customizing? I don’t need to do anything fancy; I just want it to default to showing just applications.

  42. not caring about any fancy desktop configurations (methinks at least)

What's the quick and dirty way to fix the "invisible" text here?
