Anyone an idea how to fix/get around this mess?

I have a system that says its Fedora 42 in /etc/os-release
But it has still the fc41 packages installed and tries to use these repos with dnf update.

Trying again to run the system upgrade errors out as seen in the second screenshot, and doing a normal dnf update with forcing the releasever variable to 42 fails because of all these conflicting files between the fc41 and fc42 packages 😔

Woke up to find my work laptop totally unresponsive (black screen, mouse keyboard ignored). Power cycled it and now after entering LUKS password I get

Generating "/run/initramfs/rdsoreport.txt"

Followed by

failed to connect to system scope bus via local transport: no such file or directory

after I press enter to continue.

Any suggestions?

While browsing my ~/.config directory on my Fedora laptop, I found three subfolders:

google-chrome,
google-chrome-beta, and
google-chrome-unstable

Since I don't use Google Chrome, I simply removed these subfolders. But about an hour later, i found them there again. I suspect that ZapZap (A wrapper for WhatsApp web) is creating these folders. Could this be possible?

As I do usually with the beta release of the next #Fedora version, I upgraded my tests #fedora VMs from #fedora42 to #fedora43 beta.

The upgrade went fine for the Workstation edition.

The upgrade didn’t go well at all for the #silverblue edition. Encountered an issue with a change in the PAM configuration: https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/pam-lastlog-change-crashing-gdm/164467

Please support the people around you if you have any knowledge of PCs. It's worth it and saves resources! And remember to disable the network adapter on the Win 10 installation afterwards ;) Better safe, than sorry!
Oh, and as a workstation, #Fedora42 also runs excellently for me: with #Blender #DaVinci #Reaper #Gimp #Krita #Inkscape #darktable #LibreOffice, etc., it leaves little to be desired. The only thing I'm missing is support from #NativeInstruments... *wink* *wink*

LOL Avoided a dark fate, having booted up into Fedora 42 KDE edition and installed the NVIDIA Drivers...

I followed the wrong instructions that didn't tell me to blacklist the nouveau drivers (it was an old guide). I did remember to CTRL+ALT+F3 to access the TTY to log in and solve my issue by blacklisting nouveau drivers.

Proud of myself for troubleshooting the issue as quickly as I did and not losing hope (I did yell fuck computers at my machine and bugger myself due to being a goose on the loose for good measure).

Now, I can customize my machine!

Nachdem ich mich jetzt schon ein paar Tage lang mit meiner neuen Distro beschäftige, stelle ich fest, wie schlecht vom Funktionsumfang der mitgelieferte Dateimanager ist. Die Suche im Netz beförderte zuerst vor allem Foreneinträge, die sich über eben diese nicht vorhandenen Funktionen ebenfalls ärgern (im Prinzip die selben, die mich auch ärgern😅).
Mittlerweile bin ich bei den Beispielen für andere Dateimanager angekommen.
Erster Test jetzt Thunar.
Gibt es noch andere Dateimanager für Gnome?
Und gibt es eine Möglichkeit, den neuen gut zu integrieren?

Ich bastel ja munter in meinem neuen Gnome Desktop rum. Bisher habe ich nun doch durch die vielen teilweise sehr guten Erweiterungen einen mir passenden Desktop eingerichtet.
Ich stelle mir aber grade die Frage, ob man in Gnome Verknüpfungen zu Webseiten-Links auf den Desktop packen kann?
Und wenn ja, wie?
Gefunden habe ich bisher nicht viel (nur eine Erweiterung, die aber nur Verknüpfungen von Dateien macht).
Wenn das nicht geht, gibt es ein anderes Workaround, wie man schnell von Desktop aus an oft zu benutzende Links kommt?

Aaaalso....die ersten paar Stunden mit Fedora sind rum und ich bin noch nicht so ganz begeistert. Viele Dinge sind nicht intuitiv zu finden und der Software Store ist ein einziges Chaos. Aber es gibt auch paar gute Dinge: Die Bash ist sehr viel informativer als in KDE bei Downloads usw und ich finde, sie war auch etwas schneller. Und die App-Übersicht auf dem Desktop finde ich auch gut. Obwohl mich noch stört, dass ich dafür immer die Meta-Taste drücken muss.
Zur Costumization bin ich erstmal geteilter Meinung: Ich wusste zwar, dass man den Gnome Desktop sehr viel weniger anpassen kann, als in KDE, aber das ist mir dann doch zu wenig. Ich weiss mittlerweile, dass man dafür auch Extensions benutzt, aber wenn man die nicht kennt, ist es als Neuling in Fedora unmöglich selbst zu finden. Zumindest hab ich auf Anhieb keine komplette Liste gefunden, aus der man auswählen könnte, was man haben will.🤔
Naja, noch stolpere ich mehr dahin als das ich weiss, was ich tue. 😅
Mal gucken, werde mich da die nächste Zeit mal mit beschäftigen und mir ein paar Wochen Zeit geben für nen eigenes Fazit. Dafür ist es noch zu früh. 🤓

Übrigens ein Update zu der #Frage nach einer #Distroempfehlung vor kurzem:
Habe mich für Fedora :fedora: Workstation mit Gnome entschieden. 😊
Habe jetzt unzählige Videos angesehen von Fedora und auch von CachyOS, das sind die beiden, die am Ende im Rennen blieben.
Cachy OS ist für mich ausgeschieden, weil in einem Video ein FAQ von Cachy OS vorgestellt wurde, in dem erklärt wird, dass die sich wohl eher auf KDE Plasma als DEN Flagschiff Desktop für Cachy konzentrieren in der Entwicklung. Und naja, ich hab bei der Beschäftigung mit den Distros gemerkt, dass ich auch Bock habe auf einen anderen Desktop als KDE, weil KDE kenn ich ja nun in und auswendig.
Wenn es zeitlich passt, wird heute oder morgen Fedora 42 Workstation mit Gnome in die VM gebastelt. 🤩
Bin sehr gespannt. 😁
