    #SubstanceUse

Researching #IntegratedCare, especially for people w #multimorbidity, shows that silos do not start at the psychological vs. physiological, but already within those categories.

  9. Summarising literature from 25yrs, the paper shows that most studies investigating cost in global #NCD research emphasise tangible costs (direct & indirect expenses), while largely neglecting intangible costs:

    link.springer.com/article/10.1

    Urgent development topics:
Culturally adapted measures, how intersecting identities shape QoL experience, impacts of stigma on QoL, and the roles of socioeconomic factors and cooccurring conditions.

  11. A workshop of the MLTC Cross- #NIHR Collaboration programme suggests three challenge themes in #multimorbidity research #methodology:
    journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/

    Wired:
Transparency, standardisation, reproducibility of multimorbidity research made the list!

    Tired:
Bullet points in figure 1 have more detail on building methodological capacity than the text. Investing in methodologists (of any kind) is not part mentioned as far as I can see.

  14. This study used data from national registers to examine the prevalence of multimorbidity in the Danish population btw 2000-2018. They found that the prevalence of #multimorbidity doubled during the study period, with a stronger increase in older age groups:
    journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/
For example, the number of people with at least one morbidity was 26.2% in 2000 and 41.9% in 2018; and the prevalence of multimorbidity (disease count) increased from 7.1% to 16.1%.

  15. Characteristics of older patients undergoing #surgery in the UK: SNAP-3, a snapshot observational study - PubMed pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/397654 “In the UK, one in five older patients undergoing surgery is living with #frailty, and almost two-thirds of older patients are living with #multimorbidity. These data highlight the importance of frailty screening. “

  17. 🎉👩‍🎓🎓🥂Congrats to Anastasia Lam!

Last week she successfully defended her thesis "Growing old with multimorbidity: how our differences shape the years we live with disease" at the University of St Andrews passing the viva without any corrections.

    Well done! 👏

  21. Interesting #CaseStudy in #multimorbidity network visualisation:
    bmcmedresmethodol.biomedcentra

I would challenge the conclusion that only pairs which are selected by multiple statistics should be visualised:
How about using a statistic instead that connects to the underlying theoretical assumptions?

  22. With view to #multimorbidity I focus on work led by Phuong Bich Tran using our COSMOS /
#IMPACTNIHR qualitative data investigating the lived experiences of people living w MM in #LMICs by exploring their perspectives, experiences, and aspirations
    gh.bmj.com/content/9/1/e013606

The interviews firstly showed strongly the importance of healthcare cost and forgone income as outcomes of #HealthCare, which are often not considered in the development of core outcome sets (see also medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/20)

  25. Call for #GlobalHealth #GlobalMentalHealth researchers interested in #Multimorbidity:

9th GACD Funding Call – Management of Multiple Long-Term Conditions
    gacd.org/funding/current-call-
    🗓️ 15.05. (first stage)

The common call document [pdf gacd.org/perch/resources/admin] lists a range of topics such as #StudyDesign, health #equity, stakeholder engagement and knowledge sharing it has a specific section on #OutcomeMeasures that explicitly refers to our COSMOS work

  26. A #SysReview (n=16 studies) of #multimorbidity patterns in #PrimaryCare electronic health records shows #MentalIllness and cardiovascular patterns in all studies, and other patterns relating to musculoskeletal, respiratory, and gastrointestinal diseases in some studies:
    journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/

It is likely due to the type of data used, but the included studies are only from seven countries (and only one MIC).

  27. African Research Leaders funding by #UKRI:
    www.ukri.org/opportunity/...

It offers support for exceptional #ECRs /mid-career African researchers to conduct #GlobalHealth research across sub-Saharan Africa.

    🔥Apply by 24.04.!

#Multimorbidity & #PublicHealth are mentioned as areas of relevance 😊

  28. Led by Phuong Bich Tran, this COSMOS* network study supports the growing appreciation that people's views about what is important in #HealthCare differ from those of clinicians/researchers
    gh.bmj.com/content/9/1/e013606

Re-analysing 50 semi-structured interviews from 10 LMICs across 3 regions showed especially how important finances, financing, and loss of income are.

  29. We developed a #CoreOutcomeSet for #SelfManagement interventions for ppl living w severe mental illness and type 2 #diabetes (NIHR DIAMONDS PGfAR diamondscollaboration.org.uk/)
    onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10

We identified 7 outcomes (incl. #HRQL), but I found it very instructive to see the connection btw
the focus on a narrow range of outcomes and
the potential of disease-specific interventions being too focused for the issues experienced by people living w coexisting conditions.

  30. How can we fund #Research for people, not conditions?

Research funders need to respond to the significant challenges of #Multimorbidity

“More people now live with several health problems at an earlier age and #HealthInequalities have increased, but most clinical services remain geared towards management of single diseases."
