Useful proposal for a critical appraisal tool for Delphi studies
https://www.bmj.com/content/391/bmj-2025-084509Ironically, the proposed tool was developed w/o consultation, #SysReview, or consensus methods.
Opportunity to point to a very good reporting guideline for Delphi studies:

We* investigated how QoL/ #HRQoL instruments were used as outcome measures in substance and behavioural addictions. We found similar issues as this team regarding wide variety of measures, lack of theory, and issues around methodological quality:

Busy week, I have not much posted from #RSS2025. This will follow in the next days.
For now, I enjoyed chatting with Robert Grant and am reading his co-authored book "Bayesian #MetaAnalysis" which he kindly gave me a copy of 🙇
http://www.robertgrantstats.co.uk/bma-book.htmlI am always looking combinations of unusual and cross-cutting themes for teaching/ training, so I'll do a parallel read with #MixtureModels in this area: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-540-68651-4_7

A #SysReview of quality of life and #HRQoL instruments used in trials of interventions for adults with alcohol use disorder:
https://www.jsatjournal.com/article/S2949-8759(25)00172-9/fulltextOne of the interesting findings:
Although the team focused on the most frequently used instruments they found only very few studies reporting psychometric properties in this population. This mirrors findings from our broader #SysReview of #HRQL as an outcome in substance and behavioural addictions
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37439397/ -
This #SysReview suggests that medical #crowdfunding is less a tool for mitigating health disparities, but rather reproduces existing #HealthInequity.
Individuals who face structural barriers to healthcare access often have the greatest financial need but the least capacity to launch successful campaigns.

A #SysReview (24 studies) synthesises evidence around the impact of adopting different perspectives when valuing child & adolescent #HRQL
https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s40273-025-01493-0Results show that differences in mean values arise with different perspectives on severe child #HealthStates. These differences are influenced by factors such as health state severity and valuation method. Uncertainty remains regarding the optimal choice of preference elicitation and anchoring methods.

One of my PhD students is currently conducting a #SysReview and found within their ~6.3k screening hits seven retracted papers.
❤️ #Zotero #RetractionWatchStated retraction reason:
3x integrity of journal or #PeerReview (Hindawi)
2x errors & update published
1x error & no update published
1x no ethics approval
As already with errata / corrigenda, this is extremely heterogeneous and not all retractions are equal.

Working on a #SystematicReview and #metaanalysis 🌪️
I have a basic problem with 'esc' packageWhen I want convert (un)standardized beta to r, I can't use vectors with esc_beta or esc_B , but it is ok if I convert beta in d or g.
I want convert numerous Beta in r.
Ideas ? :rickroll:

A #SysReview (n=16 studies) of #multimorbidity patterns in #PrimaryCare electronic health records shows #MentalIllness and cardiovascular patterns in all studies, and other patterns relating to musculoskeletal, respiratory, and gastrointestinal diseases in some studies:
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/26335565231223350It is likely due to the type of data used, but the included studies are only from seven countries (and only one MIC).

A very good piece of news that came just in time for Christmas:
Andrew Dyer, whom I had the honour of co-supervising at #QUBPsych, has defended his PhD! 🎉

In #ISOQOL-s #QualityTALK, Carolyn Schwartz provides an insight into her development as a researcher
https://www.isoqol.org/the-story-behind-the-elephant-in-the-room-a-long-journey-begins-with-a-single-step/Reflecting on research experiences with people living with Multiple Sclerosis, she realised that what was important to patients did not form a consistent hierarchy of domains for each patient over time. This led her into #ResponseShift research and she discusses her most recent #SysReview on the importance of the phenomenon in #RCTs #Trials:

Last week "Quality of Life Research" published 6 papers:

A #SysReview from the "#ResponseShift – in Sync Working Group" analysed 150 studies
https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11136-023-03495-xApart from the interest in the psychological phenomenon, the relative size of such effects compared to intervention effects (e.g., in #RCT https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s41687-022-00510-6) is very important for #StudyDesign in #HRQL research (see also https://doi.org/10.1007/s11136-023-03347-8).
Therefore an interesting descriptive finding: it was possible only for 105 of these studies to calculate #EffectSize-s.

Fifty-nine studies were included in this #SysReview on the costs of #Multimorbidity
https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s12916-022-02427-9i) annual costs of per person ranged from I$*800 to I$150,000
ii) increased country GDP per capita was associated with higher costs
iii) morbidity-dyads including #MentalHealth conditions are among the most costly (I$36,840)
Important future research: The included studies mostly focused on direct costs and #HighIncome countries.

Routine outcome data are a valuable source of evidence.
Using the REporting of studies Conducted using Observational Routinely-collected health Data statement this #SysReview finds that the reporting quality was largely not great:
https://bmcmedresmethodol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12874-023-01960-2The use of #ReportingGuidelines will not improve the study (if only used at writing stage). But readers will be in a much better position to understand the research!
