Bash can be a lifesaver!
I had a problem with citations in Zotero. Whenever I added a citation to my paper, sometimes the references got corrupted. I had to correct them manually.
Finally, I decided to solve this problem. While searching for a solution, I saw Richard's solution (https://bsky.app/profile/rmcelreath.bsky.social/post/3knkqvogwbc25) and decided to write a Bash script to automate this approach.
Now, I can get a corrected BibTeX file via this tiny Bash script.

#Zotero #Citavi #Endnote #Mendeley #JabRef

@gubi Thanks for the info. I've just imported from #Mendeley and it looks like everything is there and the #Zotero citing plug-in works too, thanks for helping me escape from #EvilElsevier 😉

@Buxton_Vienna #Zotero imported all my #Mendeley library in few minutes without any problem, and discovered also one retracted item because it is integrated with retraction watch. Starred folder is not imported, so if you want to get it on Zotero just create a "favorites" collection in Mendeley before the import and put there all the starred items to see this collection migrated to Zotero.

@gubi How did this move from #Mendeley to #zotero work for you? I've been using Mendeley since 2012 (so long before it was bought by #elsevier !) but the cloud version and this new Mendeley Cite thing in Word are driving me nuts today. I don't have time to wait for it to constantly think about every reference 😳 #ReferenceManager #academicchatter #academicmastodon #publishing

@mortenfrisch You can write the entire paper (text, citations, code and all) as one reproducible document with RStudio, git, GitHub and #zotero. If you want APA-style you can use Rmarkdown and the excellent #papaja package. Quarto is possible as well. Can’t remember the name/source of the apa7 quarto template, but can dig it up if you want. As others mention this takes some discipline and willingness to learn by all involved.

Mendeley is driving me up the wall today. The firefox extension keeps telling me it is failing to add references to my library, but is actually succeeding half the time, so now I have a bunch of double entries. And the desktop app keeps failing to delete the extra entries and leaving me with weird half deleted entries (that can't be selected or deleted again).
Too far into my thesis to switch to Zotero, but I'm definitely switching as soon as I'm finished.
