  2. "Colors of the Wind" is a song written by composer #AlanMenken and lyricist #StephenSchwartz for #WaltDisneyPictures' 33rd animated feature film #Pocahontas (1995). The film's #themeSong, "Colors of the Wind", was originally recorded by American singer and actress #JudyKuhn in her role as the singing voice of #Pocahontas. A pop #ballad, the song's lyrics are about #animism and respecting nature, finding its roots in indigenous #Native American culture.

  3. #animism question:
Lots of people I see around the more spiritual corners of the fediverse identify as some kind of "animist". I'm curious, what do you mean exactly by animism? Are spirits different from human souls, and if yes, in what way? Do they all possess personhood or is it reserved for humans (and maybe other "biological" entities)? Do spirits inhabit things like a home they can go in and out of, or like a body they are bound to until its destruction? How do you interact with non-human spirits? Are there spirits at all, or do you define animism in a completely different way and reject the label "spirit"?

  4. The Live Oak is my patron - not just a source of material, but a familiar spirit, guide & the center of my Work. Rooted in ancestral sand, it stands as a living pact of above and below, holding the deep truth of this Land. My practice flows directly from its wood. #FolkWitchFriday #Animism #WitchSky

The earth does not ask the river where it's going. She who holds simply sends it forward, and trusts the sea to know its own.

  7. As of today, I'm back to writing on Substack.

This post is on the value of animism and reconnection with nature as antidotes to the central problems of the modern world. I feel pretty good about how it came out, and hopefully this is the start of a more sustainable rhythm of writing these essays again after I totally burned myself out on it last year.
