I just boosted some posts from my old Urusai account kind of chronicling this, but short version: I'm half Ashkenazi Jew, I grew up with some Jewish traditions alongside Christian traditions since my Mom is a Christian. After I was around 10, the Jewish traditions were basically removed at home. My Mom was performative and just...chose to be performative as an adoptive Mom at that point. Feel free to see the previous thread for more info.
As an adult now with four kids, I decided last year to start re-embracing my Jewish ethnicity. We did some Hanukkah celebrations and had a Seder at home for Passover. I'm trying.
My family never did much for Rosh Hashanah. We'd call my Grandparents and wish them a happy New Year. That was...about it.
This year, I'm likely not going to do much about it with my family since it's less than a week away and I have absolutely no idea what to do with my kids to introduce them to it. Since I have no basis for how to celebrate it.
But, anyway...I want to do something about it next year.
It's all a learning curve.

"The story of the #Soviet #Jewish #refusenik movement is often told through the courageous men who challenged the #Communist regime, taught #Torah in secret, and fought for the right to leave for #Israel. Less often told is the story of the Jewish women who bravely sustained their families and communities. Their resistance was often a private matter, but without them, the movement could never have survived.
Among those remarkable women was #IraDashevsky. Born in #Odessa in 1958 and raised near #Moscow before moving to Moscow, Ira grew up in a society where #Judaism was suppressed, religion was mocked, and #antisemitism was part of everyday life.
