  2. This InDesign Welcome Kit Presentation Template Doesn’t Just Look Good, It’s Also Easy to Customize

    E-Type’s Welcome Kit Presentation Template, a 16-page InDesign file built at 1080 x 1920 pixels for screen presentations, is one of the more complete attempts, I have to say.

    This review works from the template’s official preview spread; the full 16-page layout is exactly as E-Type ships it, plus the technical specifications are listed on Adobe Stock. No slides here are rebuilt or restyled. What follows is what’s actually in the file, read page by page, and what a working designer can expect once it opens in InDesign.

    Download the kit from Adobe Stock.

    Please note that this template requires Adobe InDesign to be installed on your computer. Whether you use Mac or PC, the latest version is available on the Adobe Creative Cloud website—take a look here.

    What Is a Welcome Kit Presentation Template, Exactly?

    A welcome kit presentation template is a pre-built slide system that agencies and freelancers send to new clients at the start of a project. It usually covers who the studio is, what the engagement includes, and what happens next. Unlike a pitch deck, it isn’t selling the work. It’s confirming the work after the contract is already signed.

    That distinction matters for how you judge this template. A welcome kit doesn’t need to persuade anyone. It needs to look organized, feel personal, and get out of the way fast. E-Type’s version is designed specifically for that narrower job.

    Inside the 16 Pages: A Breakdown That Matches the Index

    The deck opens with a cover slide, then an index page listing six sections: About Us, Case Study, Partnerships, The Team, Manifesto, and Feedback. That index isn’t decoration. Every page after it maps directly to one of those six categories, which is rarer than it sounds in template packs this size.

    The Full Page List

    • Cover (“Welcome Kit”)
    • Index
    • What We Do
    • About Us
    • Objective (mission, vision, values)
    • Case Study
    • A full-bleed quote slide for a client testimonial
    • Partnerships (four-client grid)
    • Creators (team intro)
    • The Team (four-person photo grid)
    • Manifesto
    • Offer (a pricing tier table, four rows)
    • Brief Project
    • Feedback
    • Statistics (three metric blocks)
    • Get In Touch (contact details)

    Sixteen slides, zero filler pages. Plenty of template packs pad the count with duplicate layouts wearing a different color. This one doesn’t do that. Every slide earns its spot in the sequence.

    How the Template Is Built: What the File Structure Tells You

    Both listings confirm the color system runs on a swatch palette rather than hardcoded fills, which means updating brand colors should take minutes, not hours. Change the swatches once, and the pink, coral, and mint blocks update across all 16 pages. That’s standard practice for a well-built template, though plenty of template packs skip it and force a manual hunt through every frame instead.

    The listings also confirm photo placeholders sit on their own layer, separate from text and background elements. That layer separation is what makes InDesign’s Content Grabber tool useful here: click an image frame, and the grabber lets you swap the photo without disturbing its crop or position. None of the preview photography ships with the download. That detail trips up first-time template buyers constantly, so it’s worth repeating.

    Adding Motion With the Animation Panel

    Because this template targets screen presentations instead of print, the Animation panel (Window > Interactive > Animation) is where it earns a second look. Anyone comfortable with that panel can stagger headline text so words appear in sequence or fade a photo in gently rather than having it snap into place. Neither effect is built into the file by default. You add both yourself, per object, through motion presets and per-frame delay settings.

    If you’ve never touched the Animation panel, budget an extra hour to learn it. The template doesn’t walk you through that part.

    Where This Welcome Kit Presentation Template Wins and Where It Doesn’t

    The typography does the heavy lifting here. Bold, condensed, uppercase headlines against a warm off-white background give every page a consistent editorial weight, even before a single word of real content goes in. Pair that with free fonts linked directly in the included help file, and you avoid the usual font-licensing scramble that kills momentum on a Friday afternoon deadline.

    Where it struggles: the Offer slide assumes a four-tier pricing structure. If your agency sells one flat retainer, you’ll either delete three rows or stretch thin content across a layout built for density. The Team and Creators slides also assume four people. Solo freelancers will need to rebuild those grids from scratch rather than just deleting a box.

    The Six-Screen Trust Arc: A Framework I Use for Judging Welcome Decks

    I’ll be direct about this: the Six-Screen Trust Arc isn’t an industry term. It’s a shorthand I started using this year after comparing a dozen welcome kit presentation templates side by side, and it’s useful enough to name here.

    The idea is simple. The first six screens of any client-facing welcome deck should move through a specific order: cover, index, who-we-are, what-we-do, mission, and proof. Skip the proof slide, or bury it past screen ten, and the client starts asking questions the deck should have already answered. E-Type’s template follows this arc almost exactly, placing the case study at position six. That placement alone suggests whoever built this has sat through real client onboarding calls.

    A second shorthand worth naming: the Narrative-to-Data Ratio, which is just the proportion of storytelling slides (About Us, Manifesto, Feedback) against pure data slides (Statistics, Offer). This deck runs roughly 70/30 in favor of narrative. That’s the right ratio for a welcome kit. A sales deck should flip it.

    Who Should Buy This Welcome Kit Presentation Template

    Small design studios and solo creative directors get the most value here, specifically teams onboarding clients onto retainer work rather than one-off projects. The vertical 1080 x 1920 format also fits directly into screen-share presentations and Instagram Stories exports, which agencies increasingly use for onboarding content.

    Skip it if your pricing model doesn’t fit four tiers, or if you need a landscape deck for a projector presentation. E-Type sells a separate landscape version of the same system, worth checking if that’s your format.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Does the welcome kit presentation template include the stock photos shown in the preview?

    No. The preview photography is for display only. You add your own images to the 16 placeholder frames after purchase.

    Can I edit this welcome kit presentation template in Canva instead of InDesign?

    Some versions of E-Type’s welcome kit templates ship with a Canva file alongside the InDesign version. Check the specific listing you’re buying, since not every variant includes both formats.

    Is the 1080 x 1920 format good for Instagram Stories or LinkedIn carousels?

    Yes. That vertical ratio matches Instagram Stories natively and works well as an exported image carousel for LinkedIn, though you’ll need to export each page individually.

    Do I need InDesign experience to use this template?

    Basic experience helps, especially for the animation panel. Swapping text and photos requires almost no InDesign knowledge, since the Content Grabber handles image replacement without disturbing the layout.

    How do I add the fade and sequential text animations to the slides?

    Open Window > Interactive > Animation, select a text or image frame, then assign a motion preset like Fade In or Appear. Set the delay for each object manually to control the sequence.

  3. However the game remains playable even without these, and that makes it a marvel of game design. It's pssible to finish the game with the first character alone (Zangetsu) but doing so turns the difficulty all the way to 11.

    Your character has a relatively modest jump and reach, which make things quite a bit harder. You don't have other characters to use as bullet sponges so you need to pace your health more carefully. However none of the shortcuts through the levels are available and you're forced to take the longest and more dangerous route every time. On top of this I realized only at the sixth level that the power-ups scattered through the levels are also inaccessible. The result is a brutal quest through 8 levels and some really tough bosses which is as hard as the hardest arcade games of yore. All of this in a game that in casual mode remains very accessible. Truly a small marvel.

  7. RE: mastodon.social/@Jinjirrie/117

    There’s a reason the Israeli MFA was so keen to share the video. Beyond the cheap, exploitative #Nova branding, it featured an #AI-generated Black woman. In an Orientalist context, nothing signals indignity more efficiently than a Black face deployed to launder the crime of ethnic cleansing.

    It It is harder to sell the same claim through recent immigrants from Russia and Ukraine, many of whom, the argument goes, discovered their Jewish identity only when they learned of the benefits available to those who move to Palestine-Israel, as people indigenous to a land with which they have no meaningful connection. Even more challenging is using actual Arab Jews, because they are a reminder that these Jews are in fact indigenous to the region, unlike a random Eastern European immigrant. #Zionism’s biggest achievement is forgetting the Arabness of indigenous Jews.

    Nor is there another minority in Israel that has been treated worse than actual Black Jews, particularly the Ethiopian community. Jewishness is not a genetic trait, and there is no test for it. Yet Israel’s treatment of Ethiopian Jews echoes, in disturbing ways, the racialized and eugenic logic of 1930s #Germany.

  8. What if a Signal-based messenger made privacy protections mandatory instead of optional?

    Meet Parakeet, an open-source Android fork of Molly, itself based on Signal.

    It takes a different approach to privacy:
    🔹Tor via Orbot is mandatory and cannot be disabled in the app.
    🔹Screenshots and app-switcher previews are blocked.
    🔹Disappearing messages default to 24 hours for new chats.
    🔹No Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) notification delivery.
    🔹A redesigned interface and a separate app identity.

    Parakeet tracks Molly's releases and reapplies its own changes automatically. The latest release listed includes an APK named Parakeet-8.19.2-4.apk.

  10. Navigating a restaurant menu can feel overwhelming—especially when you’re balancing taste preferences, dietary goals, and nutritional concerns. With the explosion of AI food tech in recent years, a new era of “smart menu” experiences is emerging. AI menu analysis isn’t just about digitizing paper menus; it’s fundamentally transforming how diners discover, understand, and choose their meals. From estimating hidden calories to surfacing dishes tailored to your preferences, these innovations are reshaping both dining out and online ordering.

    The Challenge: Decoding Restaurant Nutrition

    Most diners want to make informed choices, but restaurant nutrition information is often buried, incomplete, or absent altogether. Even when calorie counts are available, they rarely account for personal needs—like allergies, macros, or dietary restrictions. Manually scanning for options that fit your criteria can be tedious and error-prone, especially at busy or unfamiliar restaurants.

    This is where AI menu analysis comes in. By leveraging machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision, AI-powered systems can extract, interpret, and enhance menu data at scale. The result: more transparent, personalized, and actionable restaurant nutrition insights for both diners and operators.

    How AI Menu Analysis Works

    1. Menu Digitization and Parsing

    The first step is converting static menus into machine-readable data. AI models (often using OCR—Optical Character Recognition) can scan printed or photographed menus and extract structured information. Natural language processing (NLP) is then applied to parse dish names, descriptions, and even detect ingredient lists.

    // Example: Simple menu item extraction using regex and NLP concepts
    const menuText = `
    Grilled Salmon Salad - Fresh greens, grilled salmon, avocado, and vinaigrette. 450 kcal
    Classic Burger - Beef patty, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, brioche bun. 800 kcal
    `;

    const dishRegex = /(.*?)\s*-\s*(.*?)\.\s*(\d+)\s*kcal/gi;
    const menuItems = [];
    let match;

    while ((match = dishRegex.exec(menuText)) !== null) {
    menuItems.push({
    name: match[1].trim(),
    description: match[2].trim(),
    calories: parseInt(match[3], 10)
    });
    }

    console.log(menuItems);

    Real-world systems go much further, handling inconsistent formatting, synonyms, and multilingual content.

    2. Nutritional Value Estimation

    Many menus lack detailed nutrition facts. AI can bridge these gaps by analyzing dish descriptions and predicting nutrition profiles. This typically involves:

    • Ingredient recognition: Identifying possible ingredients based on dish names and descriptions.
    • Recipe inference: Estimating likely preparation methods and quantities.
    • Database matching: Mapping extracted ingredients to known nutrient databases (like USDA or Open Food Facts).

    Machine learning models trained on vast recipe and nutrition datasets can predict calories, macros, and even allergen presence with surprising accuracy.

    // Pseudo-code: Predicting calories for a dish using AI
    async function estimateDishCalories(dishDescription: string): Promise<number> {
    // This would call an AI model or API trained on recipe/nutrition data
    const estimated = await callCaloriePredictionModel(dishDescription);
    return estimated.calories;
    }

    3. Personalization and Smart Recommendations

    AI menu analysis unlocks highly personalized experiences:

    • Dietary filtering: Instantly flagging dishes that fit vegan, gluten-free, or keto diets.
    • Allergen detection: Highlighting items that may contain peanuts, shellfish, or other triggers.
    • Preference learning: Recommending dishes based on past orders, ratings, or explicit preferences.
    • Health scoring: Ranking menu items by metrics like calorie density, sodium content, or “healthiness” for the user.

    Some apps leverage collaborative filtering (like Netflix or Spotify) to surface dishes that similar users have enjoyed. Others use reinforcement learning to improve suggestions over time.

    // Example: Filtering menu items for a vegetarian user
    const vegetarianKeywords = ['vegetable', 'cheese', 'tofu', 'salad', 'beans'];
    function isVegetarian(dish: { description: string }) {
    const desc = dish.description.toLowerCase();
    return vegetarianKeywords.some(keyword => desc.includes(keyword));
    }

    const vegetarianOptions = menuItems.filter(isVegetarian);
    console.log(vegetarianOptions);

    4. Enhanced Menu Interfaces

    Modern “smart menu” platforms use AI to power interactive interfaces, both on-premise (via tablets or QR codes) and online. Features include:

    • Dynamic search: Type “high-protein, under 500 calories” and see instant matches.
    • Visualizations: See nutrition breakdowns, allergen alerts, or compare dishes side-by-side.
    • Voice assistants: Ask for “spicy vegan options” and get spoken recommendations.

    This not only improves accessibility for all diners, but also helps restaurants stand out in a crowded market.

    AI Food Tech in Action

    A growing ecosystem of AI food tech products is making these features widely available:

    • Restaurant apps and POS systems: Many now integrate AI-driven nutrition and filtering.
    • Third-party platforms: Apps like Yummly, OpenMenu, and LeanDine offer AI-powered menu analysis, personalized recommendations, and nutrition transparency across thousands of restaurants.
    • Custom deployments: Some restaurant groups build proprietary AI models tailored to their cuisine and customer base.

    On the backend, open-source libraries (such as spaCy for NLP, or TensorFlow for custom ML models) enable developers to integrate AI menu analysis into their own applications.

    Challenges and Considerations

    While the potential is tremendous, deploying AI menu analysis at scale isn’t trivial:

    • Data quality: Menus are notoriously inconsistent—misspellings, colloquial names, and “secret sauce” ingredients can trip up even the best models.
    • Cultural and regional variation: Dishes with the same name can differ wildly in composition.
    • Privacy and consent: Personalization requires collecting user preferences and sometimes health data, raising important privacy questions.
    • Model transparency: Explaining how calorie or allergen predictions are made is essential for trust and regulatory compliance.

    Addressing these challenges requires careful engineering, ongoing model retraining, and clear communication to both restaurants and diners.

    Building a Simple AI-Driven Smart Menu (Example)

    Suppose you want to provide a “smart menu” experience in your own restaurant web app. At a high level, you’d:

    1. Digitize the menu (via OCR, manual entry, or import).
    2. Parse dish descriptions and structure the data.
    3. Augment with nutrition estimates using an AI API or open database.
    4. Add filtering and ranking based on user dietary preferences.
    5. Display results in a user-friendly, interactive UI.

    Here’s a simplified TypeScript-style sketch:

    type MenuItem = {
    name: string;
    description: string;
    calories?: number;
    isVegan?: boolean;
    };

    function filterMenu(
    items: MenuItem[],
    { maxCalories, veganOnly }: { maxCalories?: number; veganOnly?: boolean }
    ): MenuItem[] {
    return items.filter(item => {
    if (maxCalories !== undefined && (item.calories ?? Infinity) > maxCalories) {
    return false;
    }
    if (veganOnly && !item.isVegan) {
    return false;
    }
    return true;
    });
    }

    // Example usage:
    const smartMenu = filterMenu(menuItems, { maxCalories: 500, veganOnly: true });

    You could further extend this with AI-powered search, nutritional scoring, or even integration with fitness tracking apps.

    The Road Ahead

    The fusion of AI menu analysis and restaurant nutrition transparency is just beginning. As machine learning models improve and data becomes richer, expect even more granular, actionable insights—like real-time portion customization, automatic pairing suggestions, or even “health nudges” based on your goals.

    For both diners and restaurants, smart menus powered by AI food tech are making eating out (and ordering in) a more informed, inclusive, and enjoyable experience.

    Key Takeaways

    • AI menu analysis transforms static restaurant menus into dynamic, personalized, and nutrition-aware experiences.
    • Restaurant nutrition information is becoming more transparent and actionable through machine learning and NLP.
    • Smart menu systems enable dietary filtering, allergen detection, and personalized recommendations at scale.
    • A host of AI food tech solutions—from open-source libraries to commercial platforms—make integration possible for developers and restaurants of all sizes.
    • Challenges remain around data quality, privacy, and transparency, but the future of AI-powered dining is bright—and getting smarter with every meal.

  17. Watch the inner authority that calls exhaustion weakness and demands another demonstration of endurance. It can sound remarkably like your own voice after enough years of hearing it repeated. What are you still trying to prove, and who taught you that suffering would prove it?

    When that pressure finds an outlet, courage returns, desire becomes actionable, and you finally feel capable of confronting what has been draining you. Fire also feeds on the pleasure of being right, so a confrontation can become a performance, especially when you want witnesses to certify your power. Before making your move, consider whether you want to change the situation or make someone experience your helplessness from the other side.

    Suspicion easily becomes interrogation. Self-control easily becomes self-punishment. Do not allow the resentment you swallowed to find someone else available to receive it. You might call it taking your power back while an old injury chooses the target. Conscious Leaders choose to revisit the conversation without deciding the confession in advance. Set a limit before resentment starts demanding compensation. Put today’s fire into an action that changes your circumstances. Reclaiming power means accepting responsibility for what you do once you have it.

  18. Amazon Deep Scoop aggregates behavioral signals across your data lake and serves predictions in sub-100ms latency using a proprietary scooping mechanism that AWS has determined is 31% more cylindrical than previous generation inference endpoints. The service is fully managed, meaning AWS manages the parts it wants to manage, and the remaining configuration is handled through a 14-step IAM policy you will write incorrectly twice before it works. Generally available today in us-east-1, with additional regions coming at re:Invent, re:Invent, and one more re:Invent after that.

  20. From a terrific piece by Stephanie Campbell on what good energy policy does/not look like, with a focus on the Australian case:

    ‘Bell Bay, which already runs almost entirely on renewable electricity, was excluded from the government’s Green Aluminium Production Credit because the program rewards additional emissions reductions. But producing aluminum with cleaner energy is one goal; keeping the smelter competitive enough to stay open is another. If electricity costs make production uneconomic, Australia could lose an important industry despite its abundant energy resources.

    ‘But it does not address whether that [energy] transition will leave enough industrial capability and resilience or whether replacement capacity will arrive on time.

    ‘[Australia] should compare all available technologies on cost, reliability and practical value. If nuclear cannot compete, the market can show that. Banning it in advance prevents that comparison.

    ‘Australia did not run out of energy. It ran down its options’.

    the city did an audit and found $147,000,000 in unspent money for #homeless services.

    that's not a political choice - it's mass murder, by the city government!

    we're out here dying by the dozens every week, funds are available to keep us safe and fed, but there is no political will to stop us from dying outdoors, all over the city.

  27. Litter Pick Doddington Road Cemetery on Saturday!

    Wellingborough Eco Group & Wellie Wombles

    Get your fancy dress ready, this Month’s Two Hour Tidy Up is a Halloween special!

    It takes place on Halloween! Join us on Saturday 31st October at Doddington Road Cemetery and the surrounding area! We will be setting up our Recycling Station at the entrance to cemetery on Doddington Road (map below) from 9:30, for a spooky litter pick between 10:00 and 12:00.

    Join us for our monthly Two Hour Tidy Up!

    This location has been chosen because it is Halloween. We have not tidied this area before so unfortunately there’s a lot to do. It could be cold, so free refreshments including tea and coffee, and maybe even cake will be available.

    To help us and keep us safe at this and future litter picks, Wellingborough Eco Group have purchased some litter pickers, hi-vis vests and safety equipment including road signs, so everything is provided but please bring your own gloves and do dress up if you can.

Spring AI 2.1.0-RC1 adds message parts across major providers (keeping reasoning and tool calls in order), a new event-log session memory API with JDBC storage, human-in-the-loop tool call confirmation, and support for the pure-JVM jinfer engine. ChatMemory is deprecated for removal in 3.0. 2.0.2 ships too.

  29. I used to write poetry. I don’t know that I ever had any special talent for it. I was revisiting some old files, and I found three short love poems from my youth that I actually still like. Since they’re no longer available anywhere, I thought I’d publish them here.
