Midweek hike today on the Perry Creek Trail off of the Mountain Loop Highway where I went to the top of the falls (this photo captures only a small part since it is not easy to see from the trail as it plunges through a canyon)

  6. After a short hike in an Oregon forest.. encountered a ground spring mini-waterfall. This view is standing above the spring fall while it flows out below my feet.

  7. Stuibenfall, Tyrol's largest waterfall (October 2025)

Around 7000 years ago, a major landslide on the opposite side of the main Ötztal valley created a new 300-400 meter tall hill on this side, acting as a dam and causing a large lake to form in the higher up side valley. The water from that lake then slowly carved its way through the rocks, draining the lake and forming this amazing waterfall. The boundary of that ancient lake is still visible on the satellite view...

7000 years might feel a long time ago, but it's worth keeping in mind that this valley had been already partially populated for over 2000 years when this event occurred. How's that for a time horizon to ponder on for a moment?!
