    Doors at 1:45pm.

    Possible #coastal adaptation approaches

The feedback we receive will inform the Gorge Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy, a collaboration between by the Township of #Esquimalt , the District of #Saanich , the City of #VictoriaBC and the Town of #ViewRoyal with support from the #CapitalRegionalDistrict.

    Refreshments will be provided.

Registration is required. If we reach capacity for the event, we will take a waitlist and may add an additional event.

  3. I grow #ThaiMint & #VietnameseCoriander out of one of two repurposed bathtubs that I use for #gardening purposes.
Vietnamese coriander isn't a true coriander. It's actually an #edible #knotweed. Never put these into the ground if you don't want it to spread. I grow all of ours in containers. I have 2 large grow bags with lots of them growing. I grow lots of both of these plants because we use them in/with our Asian foods often.

  4. Native edible aquatic plant. American white water lilies at Prospect Lake in the Highlands. Nymphaea odorata. These are the only native water lilies in this area of the world. Other water lilies you see are invasive introduced species.
Beavers & muskrats like eating their stems.
Their seeds, flowers & rhizomes can all be eaten raw or cooked. Roots can be boiled to create a medicinal liquid to treat sore throats (gargle it) & for diarrhea (drink it). Many Indigenous peoples used the rhizomes to treat coughs/colds & crushed stems can be put on teeth to treat toothaches.

  10. The #ClamGardens #RestorationProject has reclaimed #W̱SÁNEĆ knowledge, improved #ecosystems and provided the W̱SÁNEĆ Nation with additional funding.

From 2014 to 2019, #ParksCanada, the #W̱SÁNEĆNation and the #Hulquminum #FirstNations participated in the Clam Garden Restoration project.

Clam gardens are #AncientSites along shorelines in W̱SÁNEĆ territory that #Indigenous people tended for thousands of years to enhance the production of #clams and related sea creatures. Clams were an important source of protein for W̱SÁNEĆ people. The Clam Restoration project spent 5 years working to restore clam gardens in W̱SÁNEĆ territory. In addition to improving the #ecology of two clam gardens, the project also aimed to reclaim W̱SÁNEĆ knowledge, practices and culture related to clam gardens.
