  1. I think I’m officially giving up and admitting defeat with my moldy clothes. I’m losing my baseline so fast because my caregivers are spending all their time trying to salvage items that probably can’t be salvaged.

    It’s almost my entire wardrobe.

The stress of thinking about how to replace it is also tough on my baseline… but I’ve got to tell myself mold is simply not worth the risk. Especially with severe MCAS.

This is another great example of the “crip tax”. If it weren’t for my disability, I wouldn’t need specific types of clothes. I would be able to soak and salvage them myself. I wouldn’t be restricted to only online shopping. I wouldn’t be on a fixed income.

This feels like a disaster, but it’s better than making myself sicker.

Let me know your best suggestions for affordable all cotton clothing (tshirts, zip up sweaters, sweat pants, socks)

  7. So sorry to everyone I owe replies to … the move was far harder on me than I anticipated. A number of items need to be completely thrown out which is a huge unexpected expense… and only about half my stuff actually got moved in the time we had.

Needless to say I’m having to accept that my baseline is shattered and it might be a bit longer than usual before I can be writing again.

Nothing good comes from pushing our bodies past what they can do, so I’m focusing on rest and finishing this move.

Honestly I wish there was secure and affordable housing for disabled people for life. Being forced to move when you can’t even get out of bed is one of the most stressful things you can be put through … and it Happens to way too many of us.

I fully plan to write an article on housing instability and discrimination against disabled people once I’m back to baseline !

In the meantime I need suggestions for cheap but safe online retailers where I can replace clothes. Due to a severe mold problem in old apartment almost everything has to be tossed. With my severe MCAS I can’t wear a lot of fabrics so if anyone knows of a unicorn store please let me know (my go to Canadian brand has become too expensive for me)

  17. I don't know what rabbit hole sent me to discovered the Mold-A-Rama, but I've ever since been hoping to one day see one IRL. Closest I got to one was in Milwaukee, but we got there late and had to leave early so I didn't have the time to visit the county Zoo to check one out.

In short, it's an injection molding machine, except it's intended as a curiosity rather than a factory machine. They make various toy figurines and you get to watch as it happens as the whole mechanism is under a transparent dome.

  18. Should We All Be ‘#HouseBurping’?

The German practice of “#lüften” is gaining traction on social media. It may improve your home #AirQuality.

By Dorie Chevlen, Jan. 29, 2026

Excerpt: "Experts say lüften actually works. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends opening windows to reduce the concentration of volatile organic compounds [#VOCs] in the home, which are released by a vast array of household items, including furniture, mattresses, cosmetics and cleaning products. These compounds can cause adverse reactions like headaches, itchy eyes and breathing problems.

"According to Dr. Parham Azimi, research associate at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, there’s also reason to believe airing out a home regularly could help control household #mold. In his research, keeping windows closed correlated with a higher likelihood of mold.

"Dr. Joshua Nosanchuk, a professor and microbiology researcher at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and an infectious disease physician at Montefiore Health System, said that better #ventilation could eliminate many airborne toxins that cause people irritation in the U.S. 'Part of the problem is that we hermetically seal our houses. We don’t want the air conditioning to get out and we don’t want the heat to get it out,' he said. 'No one opens their windows.' "

  23. I feel like the answer is oging to be "throw it out! now!" but my kid has been making cheese, and she noticed that one of the waxes had cracked, and opening that cheese, mold was growing.

It looks and smells (and, uh, tastes) like blue cheese to me, but it's likely not safe. Is there any reasonable way to find out what kind of mold this is, or to accurately characterize its safety?

    Thanks!
