  1. Ok, I'll admit I spent 45 minutes last night stonedly watching this guy make 3D-printed Kenner Toys-style Star Wars playsets that SHOULD HAVE EXISTED.

He is so aggrieved his dream playsets NEVER EXISTED that they now exist.

I don't know much about 3D printing but this looks... expensive. Props to this dude who never got over these things NEVER EXISTING.

  2. Decided to finally fix the vidrover. I enjoy the figuring it out part a lot more than the playing with it part. I drove it off a counter and busted it up good a few months ago and its just been sitting here broke.

    Lessee how round 2 goes.

  8. Ars Technica: 3D-printable humanoid legs let robotics experiments run wild. “A $2,500 pair of humanoid robot legs built from 3D-printed parts and off-the-shelf components is not going to win marathons just yet. But such relatively inexpensive hardware could enable researchers to more easily test and train AI-powered robotics software in a physical body during real-world experiments.”

  13. Neat! Someone is working on recreating 3D Pinball Space Cadet (the virtual pinball table included in some versions of Windows, originally from Full Tilt! Pinball by Cinematronics and published by Maxis) in physical form!

    youtube.com/watch?v=BU_02HABZ4s

They're also looking for an artist (explicitly NO AI!) that can provide high-quality artwork for the table, as the original was - of course - fairly low-res.

  18. For the vintage and open source 3D printing enthusiasts, I've published the beta 1 of the BearExxaV2 Prusa firmware.

    ➡️ github.com/bear-lab-3d/BearExx

For now it's only for the MK3S(+).

All modifications are detailed in the README, along with the reason for each one and the differences in the code.

    Help Wanted :
I don't have access to a MK2.5S for now, so anyone interested in testing the firmware would be awesome 🥰

    Enjoy :)

  23. Learned enough to design my first model from scratch! It's made entirely of tubes and cylinders, but I'm happy with the result and it is serving its intended function perfectly.

I built a cup and sleeve for the center of my empty filament spools for storing tools (scapers, pen knife, etc.) to complete the swivel drawer storage system I've already implemented from other models I found online. There's also a full-size cup model with no sleeve, intended to be stationary, if you don't want the cup to be removable; it's a very snug fit.

The whole thing is parametric, so it's very easy to change the lips, walls, and cup while keeping the outer diameter consistent with the interior hole of the filament spool.

  24. Welp, yesterday's failed TPU print had thrown off some layer strands and the most fragile part of the fan shroud on the MK4s caught one an was damaged. S

o instead of having another go at the TPU print I printed a couple of replacement parts on my Core One+ using PC CF. Gotta love how easily the C1+ handles PC.

Back to TPU on the MK4S tomorrow.

  25. Sinterit has launched the BIANCO2, a compact selective laser sintering system featuring a 30W RF CO2 laser. Designed for material flexibility and process control, the Euro 47000 machine targets medical, automotive and defence applications. Build volume reaches 130 x 180 x 330mm with speeds up to 30mm/h. So sick of Babmu Lab crap, I was considering getting it as my next core XY multicolor 3D printer, but after crapping on open source community for the second time, I'm done ... I'm now considering Snapmaker U1 and Prusa Core +/L with INDX ...

  31. Weekend project. A wall anchor for a towel rack got pulled through the wall over time. A photo, some @freecad and 95A TPU result in a custom fit.

Tapered holes mean the screws push outward to make the snug fit even tighter.

  32. #3Dprinting pundit Jonathan from The Next Layer (youtube.com/@thenextlayer) just posted a video with some excellent observations about #BambuLab, prompted by the current kerfuffle about their abuse of the #OpenSource and #RightToRepair communities.

I currently own two bambu printers. I am also an Apple cultist. And what he’s saying here feels spot on: one of these companies will continue getting my business. The other? can’t die fast enough.

  33. Modified a design I found for an AirTag holder to include a logo (needed a little extra depth there) and printed my own instead of buying one. Not as fancy as the carbon fiber one I have for the Porsche, but this is the right colour for the new vehicle.

  35. These buttons (or button sleeves) are 3D printed. I traced a red flower from the fabric.

After printing, they took a light primer spray, followed by my regular miniature paints (that I use for warhammer and such) and finally a thick gloss coat to protect and make them pop.

The underside is raw 3D print PLA and you can see how they slide onto a regular sewed-on button to stay in place. This is because they are not machine-washable and need removing before.

Any advice on this? Better devices out there in this segment?

  38. I will confess that when I see a booth of 3D-printed stuff at an expo or a fair, my eyes bounce right off it with zero interest.
But this weekend I saw this one, and I have to admit it's pretty neato!
