  3. My older son saved up and bought a 3D printer this week. He's making replacements for every broken part he finds in the house (very useful and cost-effective over time).

    Meanwhile, I just found all the bones--from every museum--and I got him to print me the humerus of an African lion for an art reference. Turns out you can just ask for permission if you're an artist. They'll even print it out for you.

  9. TL;DR: I printed a small mount for using Continuity Camera with an Apple Studio Display. Because of course the best camera for the display is the phone already in your pocket, and of course mounting it neatly still needs another part.

    This one is less repair and more “why is the expensive setup still slightly awkward?”. Very much on brand for Mac accessories.

    The problem

    Continuity Camera is genuinely useful. The iPhone camera is usually much better than the webcam in a display, and macOS makes the software side surprisingly painless.

    The physical side is the annoying bit. The phone needs to sit in the right place, not slide around, not look too ridiculous, and preferably not require buying yet another little Apple-adjacent accessory.

    The print

    Local file: ContinuityCameraMountStudioDisplay.3mf.

    Printed on the Prusa Core One in PETG: 0.20 mm layer height, 0.4 mm nozzle, 15% infill, two perimeters, support material enabled.

    PETG makes sense for something clipped to a display: a bit less brittle than PLA and less likely to get sad if the office gets warm.

    Result

    Draft note to self: add which iPhone this was for, whether it works with a case, and whether the mount marks or grips the Studio Display cleanly.

    If it works well, this is a good MacConsultant-style print: small, specific, and cheaper than turning a simple mounting problem into another shopping exercise.

  10. 3D printed a case for my #MiSTerFPGA reminiscent of the #Commodore #Amiga600 case. You bet I'm running the Minimig core on this bad boy, and various #Sega systems like the #MegaCD. Next up is making an arcade joystick for the #MAME cores, 3D printers are creating a case as we speak. #3DPrinting

I haven't had a chance to test it just yet, but I slapped together a quick Orca Slicer / Bambu Studio post-processing script to inject a configurable pause (default 1 minute) after each ironing layer (except the last). My hope is that this will lead to a much better surface finish on face-down stacked prints (e.g. alternating #openGrid base plates). Will update when I have an opportunity to actually use it in a print. 🤞
