Cloud-based CAD tool "Onshape" seems to just have decided to break their whole language system with AI translations; at least the german translations are completely off. Totally hilarious, but also really f*ed up. Please use human brains.

Forms provides interactive subdivision-surface modeling based on a low-resolution polygonal control cage. The editable cage is stored parametrically in the #FreeCAD document and converted during recompute into an Open CASCADE Technology (OCCT) BRep surface or solid.

#TinkerCAD is easy, but it's not FOSS, and they have a stinking #BindingArbitration clause now. 🤦‍♂️

#Blender is extremely capable, but not really meant for solid modeling, from what I can tell.

Aktuell werde ich als PLM Technical Consutlant PLM steht für Product Lifecycle Management. Ich bin sehr gut ausgebildet in PDM Teamcenter und CAD NX , ich mache support.
Warum? Alles zusammen fördert den ADHS Typen am besten und holt alles es heraus.

Wir setzen seit 1 Jahr massiv KI ein. Ich code ab und an noch mit, würde es #vibecoden nennen (klar super für ADHSler btw schnelle Ergebnisse die funktionieren) mach Architektur noch und das wars. Ich merke das die Tickets weniger werden und die KI viel abnimmt.

ich werde ersetzt werden , noch vor der Rente. Nun überlege ich in die Sicherheit zu gehen.

It always amazes me when reality matches CAD, when indirect, stacked measurements add up to perfect fit.

Here, 3 holes drilled at an angle align perfectly with the matching part on the other side of the board. #cad magic. :)

Wrapping up for today. Last draft pieces that will serve as a drill guide are almost done printing

In the meantime I completed the first candidate for the final design, including with what will serve as a tube detention mechanism (twist-to-lock - hope it will work)

The caterpillar handle will print overnight and what will be left in the morning is to drill the holes while printing the adapters with final strength settings.

This week, I created this combination wrench tray for my toolbox in #FreeCAD.

Normally, this would have been a lot of work, but I tried something new. I took about 100 measurements (10 for each wrench), took a picture of the measurement sheet, and gave it to #ClaudeCode connected to the #FreeCAD MCP. I told it to create VarSets from the measurements and explained how I wanted to construct the PartDesign, and it went to work.

It was still a lot of back and forth to dial everything in. In the end, I had a #Python macro that creates this PartDesign. Fully parameterized with about 130 parameters, I can change just about anything.

But when it comes to structure - test pieces fit, but it's non-trivial to align these. I lack good reference between top and the bottom.

What I did was to add an alignment hole that I drilled through to fine-tune the offset in #freecad.

I start with 3D scan - it serves as a good reference, isn't useful for actual design - I still have to measure myself.

The plan: design 2 inserts that will sandwich the board from top & bottom, accepting the tube through.

For this #FreeCADFriday I was going to release a 3D-printable tap aerator.

It kind of works and even pulls air into the water stream, but it still needs tuning. However, it is hard to print fine filters with a standard 0.4 mm nozzle. So this time I am not ready to share my @freecad file yet.

I want to #askfedi:
Do you have experience with 0.3 or even 0.25 mm nozzles? Do they print well with PETG? Please share your wisdom.
