  1. Did you know that with #SurfacePsycho you can create and use SubD models, convert them to #NURBS right inside #Blender, or export them as STEP and open them in a #CAD program for further tweaking? 😎
And that's not all; you can also jump into edit mode, merge the individual patches into larger chunks, and add a layer of Class A continuity. #Blender3d #b3d #FreeCAD

  2. Romain is continuing his fantastic work all by himself. The more I follow this #NURBS modeling project created with Blender's geometric nodes, the more amazed I am; I must find a way to make a small financial contribution as well. #b3d #classA #CAD #blender3d #Blender

  7. #SurfacePsycho for #Blender is straight-up amazing. Everything’s done with geometry nodes and you can just drop those nodes right into your own work.. next-level stuff here. #b3d #nurbs #CAD #procedural.
Here I used the SP Fit Curve to convert a bezier into CVs of a Nurbs Curve.

  8. Imagine if this model in #Blender was actually a native #NURBS surface that you could export as STEP or IGES and imagine being able to build proper #CAD models right inside #b3d using all its tools.
Sounds like a dream, right? Well, it’s 100% real just download #SurfacePsycho.

  9. SubD are handy for modeling hulls, but trust me, nothing beats #SurfacePsycho when it comes to #CAD #hull modeling. Not even #Rhino3D or any other CAD software comes close to what Surface Psycho can do. #Nurbs #b3d #Blender3D #Blender #boat #design

  11. I don’t have much time these days, but I’ve started this model as a starting point so I can begin using #SurfacePsycho.
Every now and then, when I get a bit of free time, I add a few surfaces here and there. #b3d #Blender #Blende3D #CAD #nurbs

  12. I tried using #SurfacePsycho's Fit Patch on a #CAD mesh model, overall the result isn't bad, but unfortunately the surfaces it generates have these cuts/gaps that you then have to fix manually.
Otherwise, when you try to export to IGES or STEP, it just throws an error. #b3d #Blender3d #Nurbs

  13. It’s seriously cool to have #NURBS working this well in #Blender. #SurfacePsycho is still alpha, fingers crossed the Blender team steps in to help out. #b3d #CAD

  14. Using the #SurfacePsycho geometry node, you can turn a simple SubD surface into a properly trimmed #NURBS patch.
In the video I showing how to convert a mesh with a SudD modifier into a NURBS patch that you can then use directly with #b3d Surface Psycho or export. #CAD #blender3d

  15. Another conversion of some meshes into Nurbs patches with #SurfacePsycho Ft node.. These are a SudD meshes finalized with boolean holes, and then converted into BSpline Surfaces with trimning here and there. #b3d #CAD #Nurbs

  16. So it turned out that It is also useful for the creations of complex trimmed surfaces.. Fit Fit Fit #SurfacePsycho #b3d #CAD #nurbs

  17. #SurfacePsycho "Fit Patch" node is absolutely incredible! It trimmed my patches and created a perfectly clean trimmed bezier surfaces from regular meshes, this mean that you can converted many stuff into #nurbs with a little effort #b3d #Blender #CAD

  18. Here’s a quick example of how to create a beveled corner using #SurfacePsycho.
In #Blender you can perfectly use all the regular mesh tools and more, to find nice solutions even when working with #NURBS modeling in SP. #b3d #Blender3D #CAD

  19. With #SurfacePsycho in #Blender, I use the control cage segments to align surfaces, a neat little trick to get #NURBS patches almost perfectly aligned with other surfaces without any automatic tools. The #surfaces end up seamlessly connected with G1 continuity, which isn't bad at all for something done completely by hand. #CAD #Design

  20. In the end, I made this model using #SurfacePsycho. Of course, it's not recommended to do everything in #Blender, but I wanted to learn. That said, when it comes to creating #hulls and other complex surfaces, it's the perfect companion for #FreeCAD. #fc3D #b3d #CAD #nurbs

  21. Everyone’s obsessed with G2 and G3 continuity, but what are you even trying to prove?? Come on, chill out a bit, everyone, get your feet back on the ground. Only a tiny fraction of stuff actually needs that level of quality. #Nurbs #ClassA #Design, but at least try #SurfacePsycho

  31. I finally figured out how to create cut surfaces with #SurfacePsycho. Gotta say, this is an amazing Blender add-on; the quality of the #NURBS surfaces is top-notch, and you have total control over the topology, which means the final quality is perfect. No doubt about it, with this add-on you can create models that are better than a lot of commercial software out there. #b3d #Blender #CAD #ClassA
Except the motor all is done with Surface Psycho :)

  36. Anyway, don't even peek at the geometry nodes of #SurfacePsycho add-on, it might give you a headache, and you risk not finding your way out! That's how it is for every #NURBS surface, it's packed with nodes and math. It's mind-blowing to think that everything was built using geometry nodes. #b3d #Blender3D #CAD #STEP #IGES

  37. The #SurfacePsycho add-on for #Blender can now import #NURBS files as actual NURBS #surfaces, not meshes. It's the biggest leap forward #b3d has seen in years when it comes to Nurbs, and it's awesome to finally be able to bring in #IGES or #STEP surfaces. It works on Linux, Windows, and macOS too, a huge step for the Blender community! #CAD

  38. After starting to mess around with #Bézier curves in #Blender and Inkscape, I tried them out in #Plasticity and #Rhino too, and now I’ve decided I’m definitely using them whenever I’m working with #NURBS surfaces. A single-span degree-3 curve lets me make pretty much any shape with the fewest points possible and get perfectly smooth surfaces… plus there are a bunch of other perks! #CAD #b3d

  39. Hey, I’ve been running some tests and found that #IGES export only works if you convert to PsychoPatch. So, I’ll need to install that add-on. For now, this solution seems like a decent compromise, and I reckon a lot of folks in the #automotive industry might find it interesting, at least until Francesco Siddi, the new CEO, decides it’s time to give some love to this part of #Blender that’s been neglected for 20 years. #b3d #CAD #NURBS

  40. Hey everyone, a guy is working on an add-on that converts SubD into NURBS surfaces in #Blender, and I’d say it’s off to a great start! Plus, he’s also developing a way to export these #NURBS as multiple #IGES patches. #b3d #CAD

  41. After years, we’re still revisiting a new #GSoC proposal to implement #NURBS functions in #Blender, another ambitious project. I’m skeptical: wouldn’t it be better to leverage existing tools like FreeCAD’s #OCCT kernel and wrappers such as PythonOCC, which already provide ready-to-use solutions? A native implementation would require advanced mathematical and programming expertise, which a beginner (still learning C++) would struggle to master in just a few weeks of development. #b3d #CAD

  42. Sooner or later I will be able to do it, for now it seems that something is improving, I managed to create an #IGES file exported directly by #Blender, and also a #STEP file always with the same #Python add-on. #b3d #CAD #SubD #nurbs
