В компании я занимаюсь разработкой методик нагрузочного тестирования, разработкой новых сценариев тестирования NGFW и написанием скриптов тестирования под различные нагрузчики. В последние годы многие компании активно переходят на отечественное оборудование для защиты информационной инфраструктуры. В InfoWatch Arma мы разрабатываем NGFW, подходящий как для промышленных предприятий, так и для корпоративного сегмента. Чтобы клиент мог оценить возможность внедрения наших решений в свой бизнес, необходимо предоставить максимально приближенную к условиям эксплуатации производительность устройства. Это одна из основных задач проведения нагрузочного тестирования. Сегодня мы рассмотрим, как можно получить основную метрику производительности NGFW, а именно — пропускную способность EMIX-трафика (трафик, состоящий из смеси различных протоколов). I have no idea why I've avoided this album for so long. Maybe it was because Bang a Gong (Get it On) was so ubiquitous, and it seemed like it was just offering more of the same.

But, well, no. Yes, it's boogie-glam, with semi-nonsense lyrics, but it's also...kinda...great?

And if you're going to make up for lost time, the Rhino High Fidelity version is great.

Debut album as “T. Rex” for Marc Bolan and Mickey Finn, having previously released as Tyrannosaurus Rex, out on Reprise in 1970. Tony Visconti produced and reportedly added bass and recorder to some tracks.

The electric guitar Bolan holds on the gatefold cover signals the shift into a more rock sound from the folkier early records but also still a fair amount of strings and acoustic stuff here.

My copy is the 2024 VMP Reissue on green (“Jewel of Frost”) 180g vinyl.

Heute präsentiere ich mal wieder eine Bauhaus-Single: „Telegram Sam“, für mich eine der besten Coverversionen, die es gibt. Das Original von T. Rex habe ich erst viele Jahre später gehört und fand es eher langweilig.

„Telegram Sam“ war die vierte Single von Bauhaus und wurde zwei Tage vor dem ersten Album „In The Flat Field“ am 05. November 1980 veröffentlicht*, also morgen vor 45 Jahren, wenn du diesen Beitrag am Erscheinungstag liest. Wie alle bis dahin erschienenen Singles, „Bela Lugosi’s Dead“, „Dark Entries“ und „Terror Couple Kill Colonel“, ist sie auf keinem Originalalbum zu finden. „Telegram Sam“ war mit Platz 3 die erfolgreichste Single von Bauhaus in den britischen Indie-Charts.

Als T. Rex 1972 „Telegram Sam“ veröffentlichten, stand Marc Bolan auf dem Höhepunkt seiner Glam-Rock-Ära. Der Song ist ein Paradebeispiel für Bolans unverwechselbaren Stil: ein lässiger Boogie-Groove, charmant und funkig, getragen von seiner lässig-nasalen Stimme. Alles klingt nach Glitzer, Selbstbewusstsein und dekadentem Spaß – Glamour als Lebenshaltung. Nicht zu Unrecht war Bolan eine der Gallionsfiguren des Glam-Rock – allerdings überhaupt nicht mein Geschmack.

Acht Jahre später nahmen sich also Bauhaus des Songs an – und verwandelten ihn in das Gegenteil. Ihr „Telegram Sam“ ist kühl, kantig, fast mechanisch. Der Beat treibt in Post-Punk-Manier, besonders der Basslauf von David J, die Gitarren von Daniel Ash hallen und schneiden, wo Bolans noch warm swingten, was zwar groovy klingt, mich aber nicht berührt. Ein weiterer Kontrast ist der Gesang, Peter Murphy singt nicht, er beschwört – mit einem tiefen, distanzierten Ton, der jede Spur von Glamour vertreibt. Der einst verspielte Refrain klingt jetzt wie ein ironisches Mantra aus einer dekonstruierten Pop-Welt.

Bauhaus’ Cover ist mehr als eine Hommage: Es ist eine Transformation, ein Kommentar über die Vergänglichkeit des Popglanzes. Wo T. Rex noch den „main man“ feierten, sehen Bauhaus darin nur noch das Echo einer untergehenden Ära – cool, distanziert, faszinierend leer. Sie haben hier quasi ihre musikalischen Wurzeln aus den Siebzigern in die frühen Achtzigerjahre überführt.

Darüber hinaus hat besonders Gitarrist Daniel Ash gerne Glam-Rock-Ascessoires verwendet, z. B. schwarze Federboas und Make-Up. Und musikalisch verwendete er in seinen späteren Projekte wie Love And Rockets (Bauhaus ohne Peter Murphy) Pop, Funk und Glam-Elemente, ohne die Bauhaus-Herkunft zu verleugnen.

Meiner Meinung nach ist „Telegram Sam“ eines der besten Lieder von Bauhaus. Von Laibach habe ich mal sinngemäß den Satz gelesen „Wir covern nicht, wir verbessern“, der paßt auch zu Bauhaus.

Die B-Seite von „Telegram Sam“ ist „Crowds“, das von einem Klavier getragen und mit Gitarrenakzenten untermalt wird. Der Gesang von Peter Murphy ist hier zunächst ruhig und steigert sich ins verzweifelt klagende. Der Text wirkt persönlich und könnte auf eine unglückliche Liebschaft hindeuten oder auf eine Beziehung zwischen Künstler („a slim pixie“) und Publikum („crowds“), bei der sich der Künstler ausgenutzt oder mißverstanden fühlt. Auch dieses Lied gehört zu meinen Favoriten von Bauhaus.
