Where do you submit photos to identify an odd #electrical #connector ?
3-pins, triangle, automotive/weatherproof, about 18 ga wire.

More professional outdoor electrical installation work, same park as before, powering the lights on a swing.
To up it a notch, they used a GOST socket, which avoids pesky RCD trips because it has no PE contacts. 👍️
This has evidently worked well, as it looks like it has already caught on fire once.
Its a nice park, but don't sit on the swing when its wet.

The base for this robo-vacuum has been acting oddly. I keep it plugged into the lower socket. Sometimes every few weeks it'll randomly shutoff. I unplug and replug it, it powers on for a few seconds, after which it'll either stay on or it might shut off again. If I move it to the upper socket, it powers on and stays on everytime. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the base or with the socket?
Eventually after some time the problem just resolves itself on its own somehow when I'm not watching.
The outlet's switch in the breaker box isn't being flipped when this happens. #electrical #vacuums #tech

Should definitely replace the outlet on the wall there with a GFCI as well 😮💨

Hey so where do I get 6/3 copper wire for a reasonable price? I need at least 50ft, but it looks like it's going to cost more than the EV charger I want to get. #EV #DIY #Electrical #Wiring

Looking for #Electrical advice/recommendations for our #OffGrid #Solar setup.
We have a Homeline Load Center panel in our bathhouse. The electric water heater is on a 2-pole breaker for 240V/50A total. I believe these use Schneider square D standard breakers.
We need to have the water heater be a wi-fi app controlled device, ideally. We've been manually turning the water heater on and off for years. This leads to mistakes like last night, when we forgot to kill the breaker before sunset, and someone took a bath, resulting in the water heater kicking on and crashing the solar system after about 40 minutes. It causes a camp-wide blackout from low battery voltage disconnect. Then we had to run the generator for an hour to get the batteries back up to enough charge to last the rest of the night.
From what I understand, schneider doesn't make wifi breakers. But they do make wifi relays that plug in like a breaker into the panel. then there's an energy monitor that goes in the panel to provide the wifi control. So the breaker output goes to the relay, and the relay output powers the heater.
So... Do we
a. go with the schneider smart relays in the existing panel
b. just wire an external timer between the existing breaker and water heater.
c. ditch the homeline panel and get something like the leviton that allows for wifi enabled breakers.
note: we do not want cloud connectivity. just old fashioned local wifi control.

How to get kicked out of the electrician's guild.
On a municipal footbridge with a metal handrail, too. This was not a DIY job, someone got hired and paid to do this.
There's a faint glimmer of hope that the PE is connected through and a working RCD somewhere down the line, but for historical reasons this is often not the case hereabouts.

For a revision, this particular project has been more challenging than I thought it would be. That said, it's also a complete, from-the-ground-up overhaul (electric pun there), and it implements a few technologies like ideal diodes I'm trying for the first time.

Holy god it is hot in that hole!
Done for the day. Managed to get pipe 2 connected to the bottom distributors and pipe 3 laid under and behind the stream and waterfall which meant removing the waterfall again and rebuilding it. Not fun with the sun beating down 🥵. But it’s 95% ready.Built the berm up a little more around the tree between the bog filter and intake bay so I could lay down another layer of liner for the diversion stream separating it from the poolpond and also served to conceal most of the pipes.
Added some rocks under the liner along both edges of the diversion stream to make sure there was enough height along the edges. I think it’s good… we’ll see when water is flowing.
Hand carried a bunch of rocks to line the new edges of the diversion stream. So close to done but have a few more to place. It’ll be easier in the cool of the morning tomorrow.
Then I can start filling the bog filter and intake bay.
As that happens I’ll give the waterfall a thoroug inspection and decide if there is any pond foam needed to direct the water. I don’t think it’ll need too much.
Phew. That was a lot.
Oh, and today’s purchase was a few more adapters from flexible pipe to IPEX. About $60.

Opened up this audio compressor to replace a single light bulb for the VU meter, and have already messed it up.
Am I really going to have to learn soldering now? Looks like it. 🙄

a little double pipe action?
i was originally going to use IPEX white solid pipe for this part of the plumbing, but it stuck out like a sore thumb and was difficult to conceal.
Luckily, I got a bonus 50ft of flexible 2" black pipe last year after Amazon sent me it even though I had cancelled and refunded the order. I thought I might sell it but never got any bites. So here we are!

success!!!
pluggd in and it turned on and pumped fine.Onto the final preparations before adding water permanently:
1: add black pump hose to bottom of the pool pond distribution feeding back to the manifold cover.
2: decide how to rip that hose when it goes underneath the stream or something else.
3: add another hose that will come around the back of the waterfall to the far side of the pool pond.
4: arrange the rocks in their final positions in the stream and waterfall.
5: foam in the rocks.
6: Connect hose for the second pump into the inlet in the bog pond.
7: fill it all up and turn on the water!

Well, this was a chore I have been kind of dreading since last fall! Cutting, splicing, crimping and ultimately connecting and lengthening the cable for the water pump for the #poolpond. I did it, but I am tired and my hands hurt. 😂 😭
It’s a pretty straightforward thing… you cut the ends off the extension cord, cut it to length, cut the part of the pump cord you want to extend in two, and then set about stripping, crimping, heat shrinking, and taping, the two cables together.
But I knew it wasn’t going to be one and done. I started this at 4PM. Thought I had it almost done by 4:30 and then realized I forgot to thread the heat shrink tubing on first. 😣 doh
So I started over.
Then I got half way through try#2 and had to leave….
Came back to it just after 9PM… and spent the next two hours doing, and redoing, it. Until it was, I hope, good.
Won’t know for sure until I plug the pump in tomorrow.
Slightly nervous. 😬
I’ll update you tomorrow! Probably first thing! 🤞

Study this to become unstoppable in amplifier design!
This winter, I hunted for the top 20 or so most influential circuit theory techniques going all the way back to the 1800's.
Despite appearances, every method shown REDUCES complexity rather than add to it.

This seems a good place to ask
Does anyone have a UK source for the discontinued Hirose 4 pin bayonet connector HR11-9BPB-4P (or at a push the unbooted HR11-9BP-4P)
Not interested in similar connectors or same model but different pin counts - this is to interface with a hardware data logger designed over 25 years ago. I can source premade cables from the USA, but cannot find the connector standalone as it was discontinued several years ago

What's a good way to attach an instruction manual to a small #electrical panel?
A transparent document wallet, like those used for invoices on parcels?
Feels a bit fragile / fire hazard, or am I overthinking it?

Boring but necessary repair work. PVC cable insulation becomes brittle and cracks in extreme cold, so several things got their cables shortened a bit.
Also took out these hyper-annoying safety locking tabs some CYA lawyer installed in my cable drum. Makes it super hard to get the plug in. One of the outlets was completely unusable, from new. Much better now!
The pump also got some upgraded connectors because I hate wire nuts (and one was corroded to prove me right). And the motor capacitor no longer rattles freely around in there.
