A #cosmorama was a gallery of #paintings viewed through a magnifying lens, giving the illusion of depth and depth of field. Artists hand-painted bird’s-eye views of each listing, offering buyers an early “virtual tour” more than a century before the #internet.

I spent 6 hours 7 minutes at a local reserve today -- Bowling Green Marsh. As much enjoyment from this as travelling to see a 'special' bird.
Highlights 4 x Spoonbill (with sticks! (I don't think I've seen this behaviour before)), Common & Green Sandpiper, Cattle & Little Egret. 34 species in total.

I spent 6 hours 7 minutes at a local reserve today -- Bowling Green Marsh. As much enjoyment from this as travelling to see a 'special' bird.

South Western #Railway and Network Rail Wessex will introduce a temporary timetable on the West of #England line from Monday 10 August because prolonged hot, dry weather has affected track stability between #Salisbury and #Exeter. Speed restrictions on a 60-mile section between Tisbury and Honiton mean fewer trains can operate safely. Services between #London Waterloo and Salisbury will continue every 30 minutes, with hourly trains to #Yeovil Junction and Exeter St Davids served every two hours. Journeys to and from Exeter will take up to 27 minutes longer, while most Yeovil services will also be slightly slower. The changes will remain in place until further notice. Engineers have strengthened the route since last year and continue to monitor vulnerable sites, while longer-term work is under way to improve resilience to extreme weather.

Need a hot water cylinder heater complete, or possibly just the overheat cutout for it, replacing. #Exeter #UK
Heats nicely with up to 1kW solar power, works nicely with 3kW mains power applied for 15 minutes, trips out after 3kW applied for 30 minutes.
The latter is in the early morning, cheap tariff.

I need a #carpenter in #Exeter to replace wood in a #garage door surround.Not a huge job, and I'm not expecting anyone to work South of a South-facing door until the heat has moderated significantly.
But it would be nice to restore the anchorage of the door in the next couple of weeks if possible.

Although the #Temperature is approaching the same sort of values it did a couple of weeks ago it feels a lot less oppressive which is a boon and the reason is that the #Humidity during the daytime is lower. As you can see from the graphs, during the last period, humidity didn’t drop below 50%, whereas now it has been below 30%. Today the minimum was 40% and that’s why today seems hotter even though the temperature is actually slightly lower.
