  8. Out at Greendale farm shop in #Exeter, #Devon

The granddaughter wanted to prepare the lunch roll for me this morning. So I got a surprise roll.
I have ham, cheese, cucumber, salad, sweetcorn and onion rings on it. Strange combo but it's made with all of her love for me. 😍 And I like it anyway. 😋

  18. I was waiting somewhere yesterday and I noticed this #Bronze #Sculpture next to me, which looked sort of familiar. So, I looked around for a notice and by the side it said this was by the #Sculptor #BarbaraHepworth and was made in #1964. Now, Hepworth lived in #StIves in #Cornwall but she was born and educated in #Wakefield, #WestYorkshire, which happens to be where I grew up for much of my childhood. Quite a coincidence. It’s a small world.

  23. Higher Ashton, Devon

Cottages on perimeter of the churchyard. C18 or earlier. Whitewashed rendered cob and stone rubble, thatched roofs, in an exceptionally unspoilt village.

  24. Cob is a natural building material made from subsoil, water, organic fibrous material such as straw, and sometimes lime. A masonry plinth is normally built first to raise the cob off the ground. Ideally, the earth for the cob is dug on site or nearby.

Cob building is currently practiced predominantly in Devon, as well as in Cornwall. These examples are in the south-eastern part of Devon, where the New Red Sandstone gives rise to rich red soils.

  25. East Titchbury Farm, Hartland, Devon

Former granary C18 mainly cob walls and thatched roof. First floor with external access via stone steps. Ground floor doorway in end wall and dovecote above. One of only a few examples of this combination of granary and dovecote.
