Join us tonight as we reflect on that often under-appreciated companion to the canals, the humble towpath. We uncover its vital importance in the past and how in, recent years, its relationship with the canal has been changing. We also meet up again with E. Temple Thurston and the good captain Eynsham Harry as the meet a figure of the forgotten past.

Made it - just!! Managed to record a quick Summer Readings episode. At a time when many of us on the canals are feeling the strain of today’s network, it is good to be reminded of just how far we’ve come — and of the grit and vision of those who fought for the future of our waterways. Tonight we listen to Tom Rolt’s account of his journey up the Stratford (North) and the ‘battle for Bridge Number 1 (Lifford Lane).'

I think I finally tracked down a new glow plug for my boat. It was a bit of a journey.
Suddenly is a Ericson 41 (hull No.2), which means that unlike other Ericson 41s she didn't come with an atomic 4, she has a Starrlett 121-D marine diesel engine. Suddenly was built in 1967 and Starrlett went out of business in the 80s... luckily Starrlett didn't actually make the engine itself, but instead made all of the marine bits. The block itself is a Isuzu DL201. There isn't much info on the DL201 except that it was mainly used in the Isuzu Bellel and in Thermo King refrigeration units.
I was looking though the Starrlett manual (its the original 1960s manual and is hand drawn) and decided to check the part number. Turns out the part number (8251-1978) for the glow plug is the Isuzu part number (9-8251-1978-0), but without the engine code. That lead me to a website that listed alternatives. Checking out the NGK Y-104 (NGK-6425), Summit Racing confirmed that it should fit the Isuzu Bellel!
I've got one on order and can compare it to the faulty one I pulled out. Unfortunately the picture doesn't match what I have, but I am pretty sure it's just a generic image. Fingers crossed that it fits.
