    REPEAT
It’s not just facts that inform our decisions. They’re also guided by how those facts feel. From deciding whether to buckle our seat belts to addressing climate change, how we regard risk is subjective. In this extended conversation with an expert on the psychology of risk, find out about our exaggerated fears, as well as risks we don’t take seriously enough. Meanwhile, while experts warn society about the dangers of self-aware AI – are those warnings being heeded?

“Would you be in a good mood?” Rozemyne asked Ferdinand.

It was a fair question, considering the dark circles under his eyes from spending three days in his private study. A question met with a skeptical look as he took in the baked goods and tea set out on the table.

“I'm not in the mood for taste-testing. Ask a courtier; they will be happy to help,” was his reply.

“Oh, no. Hannelore sent these: rose-scented tea and cookies that their chief has invented. They're nice, like lemon drops. It's kind of like a White Day gift.”

“I’m tired, but we need to talk later in your private room.”

Rozemyne frowned. Private discussions were never good.

“She sent you #present too,” Rozemyne ventured, producing a white handkerchief. “She even embroidered it, a cute cornflower entwined with an edelweiss.”

Her husband sank into a chair and gulped down a cup of tea, notwithstanding its temperature.

“Rozemyne, is this what you want?”

    “No, it’s for you.”

“Rozemyne! Not the present, are you a total idiot!? They mistook your gifts for a marriage proposal. Since Hannelore can’t marry you, they assume you intend for her to become my second wife.”

    “What? A marriage proposal?”

“Obviously that at the next Council of Aubs, Klassenberg will approach me about this. If this is what you want, I will signal my agreement. It wouldn’t hurt to have a stronger alliance with Klassenberg. But if I accept, she becomes your responsibility. I have no interest in a second wife.”

Ferdinand rose. “Think about it. I will get your answer later.”

Rozemyne watched him leave. “Marry Hannelore? My book-buddy? Like one of those yuri romances from my former life? Humm…”

For Reena’s RXC prompt, she invites us to compose poems inspired by the fantasy genre and imagine ourselves unexpectedly arriving somewhere strange while late-night doom-scrolling online.

    Sijo?

A Korean verse form related to haiku and tanka and comprised of three lines of 14-16 syllables each, for a total of 44-46 syllables. Each line contains a pause near the middle, similar to a caesura, though the break need not be metrical. The first half of the line contains six to nine syllables; the second half should contain no fewer than five. Originally intended as songs, sijo can treat romantic, metaphysical, or spiritual themes. Whatever the subject, the first line introduces an idea or story, the second supplies a “turn,” and the third provides closure. Modern sijo are sometimes printed in six lines.

    Let’s write poetry together!

When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.

  11. I started watching Murderbot, the TV adaptation of Martha Wells' "The murderbot diaries". Well, the first season is all focused on the first novel, "All systems red" and I was extra skeptical, especially since the huge disappointment in the Silo TV show, but I must say that this show clicks all the right buttons

I've already seen the main actor in another role that I quite enjoyed but for the life of me I can't remember where and when.

Anyhoo, if you liked the books or if you're looking for a mid-light hearted show, this one is highly suggested

    Am I Superstitious? Let’s Just Say… It’s Complicated.

This morning, my son and his buddies threw out a dangerous question: “Are you superstitious?”

Now, logically, I want to say no. I don’t walk around tossing salt over my shoulder or fearing black cats. But if we’re being honest… I also refuse to say things like “Wow, nothing has gone wrong today!” because I know the universe is listening.

So, am I superstitious? Let’s just say I respect the possibility of unseen forces—but I’m also not afraid to test them.

    Let’s break it down.

    1. The ‘Don’t Jinx It’ Rule (AKA, I’m Not Stupid)

You ever confidently say something, only for life to immediately slap you in the face?

🔹 Example: “Ugh, I never get sick.” Boom—suddenly, I’m drowning in tissues and self-pity.
🔹 Pain Level: 9/10. Because why does the universe have to be so petty?

✅ How I Handle It: I knock on wood. Every time. Even if it’s fake. Even if people are watching. If I forget? You best believe I’m mentally whispering “no jinx, no jinx, no jinx” to undo the damage.

    2. The ‘Something Feels Off’ Rule (My Sixth Sense is Real)

I don’t know if it’s energy, instinct, or just years of experience with people being sketchy, but if something feels wrong, I listen.

🔹 Example: Walking into a place and feeling an immediate, unexplainable sense of nope.
🔹 Pain Level: 10/10 if ignored. Because the ONE TIME I brushed it off, I ended up in a situation I never should have been in.

✅ How I Handle It: If my gut tells me to leave, I leave. No debating, no justifying. The last thing I need is to become the main character in a bad horror movie.

    3. The ‘Ghosts? Prove Me Wrong’ Rule (I’m Ready for This Fight)

Unlike most people, I don’t fear ghosts, Ouija boards, or haunted places—I’m fascinated by them. Do I believe in spirits and the paranormal? Not really.

But am I willing to test it? Hell yes.

🔹 Example: While some people refuse to step foot in a haunted house, I’m the one saying, “Alright, if something’s here, show yourself.”
🔹 Pain Level: TBD. But honestly, if a ghost did prove me wrong, I’d be more excited than scared.

✅ How I Handle It: If the supernatural wants my attention, it better bring receipts. Until then, I’m keeping my skepticism and my curiosity wide open.

    So, Am I Superstitious?

Let’s put it this way—I don’t live in fear of bad luck, but I also don’t poke the bear (except when it comes to ghosts, apparently).

If knocking on wood, trusting my instincts, and challenging the unknown keeps things interesting, then I’m all in.

    Now, tell me—are you superstitious?

Or are you the type to laugh in the face of fate?

Drop your thoughts in the comments… but if your luck suddenly changes, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

  22. US Top News and Analysis | CrowdStrike takes advantage of its struggling stock. Should investors also act?

CrowdStrike increased its share buyback program by $500 million to $1.5 billion, viewing its stock drop alongside other enterprise software names as an opportunity. The company’s leadership believes the recent decline in its stock price, driven by AI disruption fears, is misplaced. Jim Cramer noted that the proliferation of AI actually strengthens the case for more cybersecurity, not less, and emphasized that CrowdStrike remains well-positioned in the sector despite market skepticism.

During a recent conversation with CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz, Cramer reported that the executive expressed frustration over the misinformation surrounding the company’s valuation and growth prospects. Kurtz reiterated confidence in CrowdStrike’s long-term strategy, particularly as AI adoption increases the attack surface and demand for advanced threat detection rises. Cramer affirmed that the Investing Club maintains a buy-equivalent rating on CrowdStrike, underscoring belief in its fundamentals despite short-term volatility.

The discussion highlighted CrowdStrike as part of a broader trend where cybersecurity firms like Palo Alto Networks are being undervalued due to overblown concerns about AI replacing traditional security needs. Instead, Cramer argued that AI enhances the necessity for robust cyber defenses, creating a tailwind for companies that can leverage machine learning to improve threat response. Investors were advised to consider the buyback as a signal of management confidence and a potential opportunity to accumulate shares at a discount.

  25. T.A.E.’s Book Review – Planta Sapiens: The New Science of Plant Intelligence by Paco Calvo with Natalie Lawrence

Planta Sapiens is not content to be merely informative; it is argumentative, provocative, and impatient with the old habit of treating plants as passive background scenery. Calvo and Lawrence present the plant world as a field of intelligence in its own right, arguing that we should borrow tools from animal cognition to rethink how plants perceive, learn, and respond. Even the official descriptions frame the book this way: plants “learn from experience,” communicate socially, make decisions, and even display individual differences that amount to something like personality. That is a bold premise, and the book’s title announces its intention to recast botanical life as a realm of sapience rather than silence.

What makes the book especially compelling is its philosophical framing. Calvo’s claim, echoed in adjacent commentary on the book, is that cognition is not a thing hidden inside a creature but something produced through relationship—organism and environment coupled together. In one of the book’s most arresting formulations, “Cognition is not something” the way common sense imagines it; rather, it emerges through contact with the world. That move shifts the discussion from whether plants have human-like minds to whether our concept of mind has been far too narrow all along. Read literarily, this is the book’s deepest gesture: it asks us to de-centre the human not by diminishing thought, but by multiplying its forms.

The prose and argument gain force from the book’s repeated insistence that plant behavior is not only reactive but purposive. A Yale overview of the book highlights examples such as wild strawberries learning to associate light with soil nutrients, flowers timing pollen production to pollinators, and plants “judging risk” in how they allocate growth. Another discussion of the book defines intelligence as behaviour that is “adaptive, flexible, anticipatory, and goal-oriented.” Those phrases matter because they show Calvo’s rhetorical strategy: he does not claim plants think like humans; he claims that life itself may already contain the germ of mind. The result is a text that is less interested in botanical trivia than in a reordering of the hierarchy between human exceptionalism and vegetal agency.

As a scholarly intervention, the book is invigorating; as a persuasive one, it is not without risk. Its language can be so expansive that skeptics may hear overreach where advocates hear liberation, and that tension is part of the book’s energy. The controversy is real, and the broader conversation around plant intelligence remains unsettled, with some researchers treating such claims as evidence of intelligence and others as a category mistake. Yet that unsettledness is precisely what gives Planta Sapiens its literary and intellectual charge: it is a book that wants to change not only what we know about plants, but the kind of readers we become in their presence. It is at once a scientific provocation and a philosophical re-education.

Overall, Planta Sapiens is a stimulating and serious book, best read as an ambitious act of intellectual re-enchantment. Its strongest pages do not simply tell us that plants are remarkable; they make the word “plant” itself feel newly strange, charged, and alive.
