I finished watching the #Murderbot TV Series and felt meh about it. While the book material was not directly adaptable to the screen, the changes made in the show felt unnecessary.

Rereading the #murderbot #diaries by @marthawells because we all need a bit of escapism!!

In July 2026, I finished 9 books. I caught up on the Spellmonger and Murderbot series and restarted Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series.

Also finally got around to Project Hail Mary after seeing the movie earlier in the month. Both were good, but I think I actually liked the movie a bit more. The book didn't make me cry, and the movie soundtrack was pretty great.

My nonfiction selection for July was the audiobook version of The New Perimenopause: An Evidence-Based Guide to Surviving the Zone of Chaos and Feeling Like Yourself Again by Mary Claire Haver. 10/10, highly recommend, ladies in or approaching perimenopause!

(I borrowed that from the library and did not receive the referenced supplemental PDF. If anyone can hook me up with a copy, that would be super!)

I finished reading #AllSystemsRed, the first book in the #Murderbot series, today. I really liked it and it was just the right length for its plot. I’m planning to watch the TV series adaptation next but I’m wary of how they made a 10-episodes-long season. Even the audiobook is just 3+ hours. 🤔

@quidcumque thanks for your thoughts on this one, marked them for later bc spoilers. i put it on a 3 of 5, where 1 = not finished and 2 bad and 3 OK and 4 superb and 5 = everyone should read this!

really would like to get a 9th novel in which wells would expand on the inner reflections and some moral paradoxa, e.g. through interactions inbetween humans and #murderbot including other hacked #SecUnits.

My kid had just finished Exit Strategy where it says I felt my body crumple but I didn't feel myself hit the floor when I saw this and had to share it with them. Poor Murderbot!

Just finished (re)reading Platform Decay and then went back to Fugitive Telemetry (which may be my favorite) and at SecUnit's mention of helping Ratthi with data analysis the data analysis part struck me more than before when I had focused mostly on SecUnit saying Ratthi made it more interesting. That reminded me of the small moment in System Collapse when Ratthi just knows SecUnit is processing data and it's a nice little callback to how much they must have worked together.

Can someone convince me to finish Flood, by Stephen Baxter? I have its sequel, Ark, on my to-read list, but I'm 20% into Flood and having second thoughts about both books.

It's very slow so far, and the author seems more interested in detailed references to London landmarks than telling an interesting story.

I've switched to catching up on #murderbot until I come to a decision. I know I'm in safe hands here.

Weeded the front flower beds in the hot sun while listening to the latest Murderbot installment from Martha Wells. Lost a little blood during an engagement with several thornless honeylocusts that had hacked their programming and in fact had plenty of thorns (don’t get me started). #murderbot #books #gardening

I would argue it is the best hard SF series.

I would rank #Murderbot above it, but availability of that one is more limited.
