#IllanElokuva. Joulukuisin olen jo monta vuotta yrittänyt välttää väkivaltaisia ohjelmia, jopa muotiin tulleita ”kotoisia murhia”. Tämmöistä hömppää saa katsoa, vaikka parasta tietenkin olisivat #FrankCapra'n tai #DouglasSirk'in tapaiset tekijät.

#Douglass did say some words, but they weren't an apology.
He says he is “deeply sorry for the offense” which is not quite the same thing as being sorry for his actions.
He minimizes what he did, saying his comment “was an unflattering remark about a specific individual, absolutely not a generalization.”
He complains about the "hate" that he's been subjected to because of his actions.
No one should be fooled. They're #Nazis and this is damage control.

“Northern whites had come to accept irresponsibility, ignorance, and submissiveness as peculiar Negro characteristics, as natural products of the Negroes’ racial inferiority. Consequently, those who wrote above depravity failed to fit the stereotype and somehow seemed abnormal, even menacing. The ‘drunken, idle, ignorant, and vicious’ Negro, Frederick #Douglass explained, was the proper butt of the white man’s humor; he was termed a ‘good-natured fellow’ and was always first to be asked to hold the horse or shine the boots of the white man.”
— Leon #Litwack, North of Slavery: The Negro in the Free States, 1790-1860 (1961)

@mckra1g. As #Douglass said in "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?":
"I do not hesitate to declare, w/ all my soul, that the character & conduct of this nation never looked blacker to me than on
this 4th of July! Whether we turn to the declarations of the past, or to the professions of the present, the conduct of the nation seems equally hideous and revolting. America is false to the past, false to the present, & solemnly binds herself to be false to the future."

@gtconway3. And then read #Douglass's "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?"

@GottaLaff. I would also urge people to read (or reread) #Douglass's "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?" I've been posting particularly resonant excerpts. Here's another:
"The feeling of the nation must be quickened; the conscience of the nation must be roused; the propriety of the nation must be startled; the hypocrisy of the nation must be exposed; and its crimes against God and man must be proclaimed and denounced." https://masshumanities.org/files/programs/douglass/speech_abridged_med.pdf

#Douglass's brilliance & sadly his resonance. "There are exceptions, & I thank God that there are." However, "the church of this country is not only indifferent to the wrongs of the slave, it actually
takes sides w/the oppressors. It has made itself the bulwark of American slavery, &
the shield of American slave-hunters. . . . this horrible
blasphemy is palmed off upon the world for Christianity." (What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?)https://masshumanities.org/files/programs/douglass/speech_abridged_med.pdf
