Caught a Chinese pipa, Swedish nickelharpa, Native American flute, and cello on a walk through the forest.
Then a solo Chapman stick performance.
And final an orchestra with theremin guest soloist.
You know, just the usual stuff.That theremin piece was something else, wow.

Definitely not a music festival but there seem to be more interesting options than I ever remember and I'm bending the schedule that way.
Had one of the more eclectic live music evenings I've ever had.
Started in a beautiful church with a Brazilian jazz tribute.
Then to Kilbourn Hall where Eastman students performed Steve Reich's Double Sextet in celebration of his 90th birthday.
Then to a small lounge in a different church for improvised looping guitar/bass/piano accompanied by an interpretive dancer in various states of undress.
Finally to a bar for an all original rock opera about marriage/infidelity.
All local musicians and all amazing.

On July 5th 1852, exactly 174 years ago today, Frederick Douglass gave a speech at Corinthian Hall here in #RochesterNY, at a gathering of the Ladies' Anti-Slavery Society. His words were blunt and honest, pointing out the hypocrisy about the laudable ideals of liberty and justice promised in the Declaration of Independence. He forced his audience to confront the truth, that the high-minded assertion that "all men are created equal", was NOT actually being extended to all.
The speech is known under the title "What to the American Slave is Your Fourth of July?" It is well worth reading again now, on this July 5th.
