& it is of course - St Davids 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

#RuinedPrioryFriday & while Malmesbury Abbey still partially survives as a functioning church, you can see where it has bifurcated from its original, much larger structure

Sometimes in order for #RuinedPrioryFriday to make sense you need to visit a fully-intact Abbey, and so it was a rush to see Fountevraud 🇫🇷 last week! 🥰

Although despite restoration, this was heavily altered after the french revolution to become a prison, so not entirely as originally built

A less than entirely ruined priory for #RuinedPrioryFriday this week, Brinkburn Priory still has a roof but has been much modified with part of its c12 fabric being incorporated into a c19 stately home

Its #RuinedPrioryFriday & something a little different this week: a contender for largest barn ever built in England!

The St Leonards Barn, linked with Beaulieu Abbey a short way up the road, built between c13 & c14 before a more modest barn was built in its footprint in c16

#RuinedPrioryFriday & its the Monastery of 40 saints above the city of Sarandë, Albania 🇦🇱
likely founded during the reign of Justinian

Always nice to have a site outside the British Isles for #RuinedPrioryFriday
This is the C13 Monastery of St Nicholas in Southern Albania 🇦🇱
While the monastery church still stands you can see the ruins of other structures and the boundary wall

#RuinedPrioryFriday - with moody scenes from Bayham Abbey, on the border between Sussex & Kent
founded in 1208

#RuinedPrioryFriday and one id not come across til now - Cleeve Abbey in Somerset
A Cistercian Abbey founded between 1186 and 1191 when William de Roumare, Earl of Lincoln, gave all his lands at Cleeve for the foundation of a new abbey.

over the years i must've taken countless pictures of the c13 church in priory park, Chichester
but yesterday finally got to satisfy my curiosity & see inside
part of a larger monastic complex and later used as a courthouse

#RuinedPrioryFriday is back & its the beautiful if, rather worse for wear Shaftesbury Abbey, not a lot of masonry left but the form of the abbey church clearly visible from above, now currated as a garden
Kind Edward the Martyr was (re)burried there
