White Pyramid
Following a valley towards Flateyjardalur in north-eastern Iceland, we stopped at some shepherds' huts to admire the view.
With the sun at its low meridian due south, the dramatic peaks surrounding the valley were breathtaking. One stood out amongst its neighbours; mist-wrapped and ice-coated, this perfect point.
The peak is Kambsmýrarhnjúkur¹ at 1,041 metres (3,415 feet) high.

Sunset Pink
February, and we've just arrived in Iceland. Leaving Keflavík airport we're heading through Hveragerði on our way to our first hotel. Sunset is in about ten minutes in the south, to our right.
Ahead of us the 551 metre (1,808 feet) high Ingólfsfjall tuya is catching the colour of the sunset.
Consisting mainly of palagonite and basalt, it's linked to the story of Ingólfur Arnarson, Iceland's official first settler.

Golden Crown
15:30 late afternoon, mid-November in eastern Iceland, and the sun is setting in the south-west.
Looking north across Berufjörður, the mountains behind us are casting shadows onto the peaks on the opposite side of the fjord. Gradually they have crept up the faces of the mountains, and I have watched, spellbound.
A bizarre mountain named Stöng has a strange spiked pinnacle. For a perfect moment, only the very tip of it is sunset-lit.

It continues to be very hot - so in order to cool off a bit, let's go to the Hochkönig mountain range in Austria, where on a hike I found these peaks topped by a cloud that is (roughly) shaped like Austria. 🇦🇹

Snow, Mountain, Glacier
Snæfellsjökull, a 700,000-year-old glacier-capped stratovolcano in western #Iceland.
The most recent eruption occurred around 1,800 years ago, but the volcano is still considered active, with the potential for future eruptions.
Sadly, according to glaciologists, the glacier is predicted to disappear by 2100.
The name Snæfellsjökull¹ literally means "Snow mountain glacier"

July, and the afternoon sunshine highlights the greensward of the mountain flanks. Cloud shadows drift slowly across, exaggerating the rocky contours of the crags.
In the stillness, an eagle can be heard in the distance.

To the south of Loch Earn, this is Am Bioran (616 m/2021 ft) in the Strathyre to Strathallan region in the county of Perth and Kinross, #Scotland.

There are many fascinating constructions in Scotland, not only the Glenfinnan Viaduct. This beauty is visible from the road between Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy in the southern Highlands of #Scotland.
