Cloud Cover

A lovely early September morning, and we're starting out from Ísafjörður for a day in the Westfjords of Iceland.

It's cool and quite humid without even a breeze, and scarves of cloud are hugging the mountains around the port. Briefly, before the sun rises far enough to warm the moist air, they emphasise the contours of the slopes beautifully.

Looking south towards Engidalur, the mountain on the left is Kirkjubólsfjall at 706 meters (2316 feet).

That day felt unusual — I was moving between two heavy layers of clouds.
The soft, filtered light gave the place a mysterious mood, transforming those modest mountains into something from a child’s fantasy tale.
