  1. I know what you're thinking?
    Is it Spider Sunday already?

    #GoodMorning #Bonjour

I was holding off until your eyes opened, SPIDER!!

This is a female Golden Silk Orb-weaver (Trichonephila clavipes), also commonly known as a banana spider. Their venom has low toxicity and is considered harmless to humans

  2. CW: Spider!

    @cub80_appleby @dgar

    Good morning Stephanie and Jon
    It is #SpiderSunday you know?

  3. Spotted yesterday: woodlouse spider (dysdera sp.) also known as baked bean spider, which I rather like.

I submitted to iRecord as d. crocata but this got an “awaiting review” response as the similarity to d. erythrina makes it difficult to identify except by expert under magnification. Also, neither recorded in my area (but close by).

They have formidable “fangs” which can be painful if they bite you, but not a big problem. It was on my glove 😬

  4. I think of this _Larinioides_ colouration as "white chocolate". The spiders in this genus I see in my area range from almost black to grey to orange-brown to peach to beige to, like this one, almost white.

  5. found another pair of mating leaf-curling sac spiders (family Clubionidae)!

The bubble-like thing in the first picture is the haematodocha, a sac in the male's palpal bulb that inflates to change the orientation/shape of the pedipalp to allow it to lock in to the female's convoluted genital opening.

  6. #SpiderSunday: A male _Habronattus decorus_ on the western shore of Tommy Thompson Park! I have only found these before on the City Hall green roof. The females have camouflaging brown patterns, but the males have a silvery-white cephalothorax and iridescent abdomen that shifts between orange-red and purple-red. And like all jumping spiders, their large front middle eyes give them a cute and charismatic aura.

  7. Looked outside this morning and spied the overnight labor of an orb spider. Shining in the sun.
About 1m across and about 1.5m above the ground, anchored by a tree, the ground, and the raised bed critter guard. The center of the web was 2m away from any anchor point.
Grabbed the camera with the macro and grabbed some shot before the morning Ruby walk.
Lucky I did, it was gone when we returned, probably a bird got a face full of web. Better them than me.

  8. CW: Spider

I found a spider on the raspberries today. A big jumping spider I think (I don't know if that's a thing)? It had a really cool face pattern on its back but wanted to keep its eyes on me while I took a picture.

  9. CW: Absolutely 100% an ant, nothing to see here

#SpiderSunday: _Synageles_ ant-mimic jumping spider, plus a nearby _Prenolepis imparis_ (not the model, I think, but it's the most common ant in my garden)

  10. #SpiderSunday: several of the spiders I met on that one warm day last week! A running crab spider (_Philodromus_), a bold jumping spider (_Phidippus audax_), some kind of crab spider in tribe Coriarachnini (_Bassaniana_?), and a good old zebra jumping spider (_Salticus scenicus_) with what looks like most of a mesh-web weaver (family Dictynidae).

  11. Did you forget too?
    It's #SpiderSunday

My friend Dol, (Ms. Dolomedes Tenebrosus, if you're nasty).

She eats things I don't like. Flies.

During copulation, females of the species practice sexual cannibalism on their male counterparts WHAT, WAIT..

  13. The cellar spider (_Pholcus_) under the radiator in my bedroom, enjoying a hand-delivered flightless fruit fly (with a second course wrapped up nearby). Note the distinctive eye arrangement: ( ∵ .. ∵ )

I'm simply amazed by how well these spiders can survive in very dry environments with extremely little food!
