Today's #1001albums again nicely matching #CDFriday, allowing me to enjoy the classic Franz Ferdinand from 2004. I think we're going to have a good time.
-
I love it when #1001albums overlaps with a #CD I have, so today I can enjoy Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band for #CDFriday.
No surprises, but this will be ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Today's #CDFriday play is Japandroid's 2024 Fate & Alcohol.
This is their last and clearly not best record; actually it's probably their worst. It feels mostly like a bit of a missed opportunity. Their music was always very centered on the idea of 'epic nights out', but at this point they've got families etc. I would have loved it if their music had made the transition with them into middle age - how interesting could that have been?
But between the cringe lyrics and songs that sound like a self parody, it still does have some excellent moments, like Upon Sober Reflection and Fugitive Summer. But they do feel like playing the hits.

So today's #1001albums , and my 100th, is Different Class by Pulp, which since I have a copy can double up as my #CDFriday play.
No spoilers, but this is going to be a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review.

For today's #CDFriday a fresh CD for me of an older song. I love Public Service Broadcasting's Korolev, and still can't understand why they didn't put it on the Race For Space album. If you haven't heard it, do yourself a favour and give the song a try.

Arrived at the letter G today for #PlayEveryLetter:
Supernature
by Goldfrapp
2005Playing the multi-channel SuperAudio CD today. This is an album I haven't played much, so it's an excellent candidate for this revisiting challenge.

Last one today for #PlayEveryLetter with the letter F:
Reistu þig við, sólin er komin á loft...
by For a Minor Reflection
2007Picked up this album after their show in 2008 where they were support act for Sigur Rós. I thought they were pretty impressive during that show.

My pick for the letter E for #PlayEveryLetter:
Build a Rocket Boys!
by Elbow
2011Half of the albums I have for E are by Brian Eno, so I had to pick something else this time. Haven't heard this one by Elbow in a long while, so picked this one.

Today's #CDFriday play is In Utero by #Nirvana, as suggested by #1001albums
I've just had a 3 day streak of '1001 Albums' that I own: Everything Must Go by Manic Street Preachers, War by U2 and now In Utero.
I don't know if that means I have good taste, or just that the list is skewed towards white suburban millennials.

Today's #CDFriday is a bit of #Swedish indie.
Years ago I heard the song "The 24th" by Rasmus Kellerman, and occasionally it'll pop back into my head. This time I did some more digging, and it turns out there's an album, and he is/was the main contributor to a band called Tiger Lou. All of these #CDs were available for weirdly cheap (4, 4 and 2 euro new, plus reasonable shipping). After a few listens they certainly seemed with having, and arrived this week. I think at the moment "The Wound Dresser" is my favourite album, but the 24th is still just a beautiful, grateful, swirling song.

Last one today for #PlayEveryLetter:
12 Ways to Win People to Your Way of Thinking
by Wes Cunningham
1998This American singer-songwriter had a small hit with the song Not Enough, a catchy rock tune I loved a lot. The album has a lot more of this stuff.

Next up in my #PlayEveryLetter thread:
De Fluff
by Bootcut
2006Bootcut is a Swedish side project by Beardfish’s Rikard Sjöblom and their early drummer Petter Diamant, featuring a stripped-down lineup built around Hammond organ and drums. Fun and catchy instrumentals.

For today's #CDFriday I'll be listening to some of my favourites from last year that have now arrived in hallowed shiny form.
Blizzard of Oz is not for me though, that's for Child B, who loves Crazy Train.

Kicking off #PlayEveryLetter with:

Turbulence
by Steve Howe
1991Excellent instrumental album by Yes' guitarist. If you listen closely you will recognize some themes that were recorded in a different form in a couple of songs on Yes' Union album.
-
Duran Duran
by Duran Duran
1993Also known as the Wedding Album.
Haven't played this in a while, so I thought it was time to give it a spin today. A lot of great songs like Ordinary World, Too Much Information and Come Undone. -
The Rainmaker
by The Flower Kings
2001File under Swedish progressive rock. One of the better albums in their huge discography, imho.
-
V
by Spock's Beard
2000Unbelievable that this album is 25 years old now. Time flies. And what a great album this still is.
-
Next round of second hand #CD s have turned up. Catching up on Vampire Weekend, whom I've always known about, and are widely praised, but I've never got round to, so that'll be today's #NowPlaying
-
Union
by Yes
1991Or as Rick Wakeman would call it: Onion. Whatever he calls it or what other people think of it, I love most of the songs on this album. I played it to death when I got it after its release.
