  1. I walked to the postbox, cash machine and pharmacy. It was dry but the clouds were ominous.
Then within 30 metres of my house the heavens dumped a week's worth of rain on me!

  2. Rumour has it that the pub where our Petanque League team has its home ground has been taken over by a chain specialising in LGBTQ+ pubs.

A bunch of old people throwing their balls around are going to fit in just nicely! 🤔😆👍

  7. I had a good evening playing Petanque in the local league.
We drew as a team, which was a good result against worthy opponents.
I played really well in the first game, and appallingly in the second!

  12. Today's allotment visit was better than expected.
The weather was benevolent - in fact it got quite warm before we left.

I got everything done I wanted to, including playing with my new strimmer (on wet grass). It's truly impressive.
I wasn't intending to plant any seeds today, but got some salad stuff in - which is mostly old seeds so it may not germinate.
I also put a few more hooks up in the shed to attempt to manage the clutter (no chance!)

Sacha made excellent progress on weeding between the rows of garlic.
She was determined to try to skim the pond to try to reduce the amount of duckweed but she quickly discovered our huge colony of tadpoles!

We came home with a mountain of rhubarb and another armful of irises, some of which have already gone to our next door neighbour.

I've taken some heavy duty pills for the backache, and showered the grime away.

  13. A 5½ hour allotment session done - we both got lots of useful jobs done, and we're both exhausted!
It's a two cocodamol backache sort of afternoon 🥴

We've come back with a bucket full of iris flowers and a half bucket of rhubarb.

The ground here (Leicestershire) is parched already and the clay lumps are becoming unworkable. I'm mulching as much as possible.

My new expensive cordless strimmer arrived while we were out - so the paths will get cleared next time we're there.

It's a splendid afternoon out there

  14. “Leicestershire Police forced to publish Palantir contract – with heavy redactions”

“Leicestershire Police signed its contract with Palantir back in October 2024, for an eye-watering £818,750. It was the first UK police force to sign a deal with the US-based firm. The East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), an organised crime and counter-terrorism grouping, also had a hand in the agreement”

  15. Back home after my 52km bike ride.
It's seriously breezy out there - more so than I expected.
Plus, I must have planned the route to include every hill in south Leicestershire!
Still, it's completed and it's within time, so I can submit it for validation as a #AudaxUK BP ride. My first in a couple of decades (I need to check that).

    Now, I'm absolutely knackered.

  20. It's Thursday so I've been on my usual Wednesday bike ride.
At 41.4km this is the furthest I've ridden in one go since March 2017.
My quest for fitness continues - I suppose I should have been grateful for the headwind on this ride, but it made it hard work, particularly on the hilly bits!

I discovered a handy new coffee place in Kirby Mallory 👍

I'm still pondering entering my 50km DIY #AudaxUK ride next week. 🤔

  25. I was asked to play in a Petanque league cup match this evening for our team (The Railway Rockets)
We lost the first game 13-0 and won the second game 13-4. We were playing The Shardlow Old Crown team.
A thoroughly good evening in excellent company.

  26. Yes we were dodging showers at our #allotment !
We sat out two downpours out in our shelter, but on the third decided to come home.
We had lunch and a cuppa in the shed, but it's not a joy being wet through.

    In between the showers:
I got some seeds sown, Sacha got the dahlias and lupins in, and did some weeding.
We came home with some glorious tulips (I'll try and get a photo later).

  27. Cycling and getting fit
I'm back from my Wednesday bike ride.
    33km out to Market Bosworth.
This is the furthest I've ridden since May 2018.
This year so far I've ridden more miles than in the whole of 2025.

I felt like a proper cyclist - I was wearing my #YACF top!
I was really struggling on the hills but today's average speed was greater than last week. It was difficult to find a good pedalling cadence which probably shows a lack of fitness.

I'm pretty happy with today's effort.

  28. Had a lovely wander this morning, must admit that wooded areas aren't really my photography thing, way too visually busy.

Grace Dieu Viaduct in the harsh morning sun.
