  1. Notts Pride today! It was a big big march. I saw some good signs.

    I wasn't the only masked person :-)

    Having my snack now.

Main stage area is very loud, thomp thomp thomp. I might have a wander round the other areas in a bit.

  3. #UK #Government guidance allows #English councils to create new local authority bus companies (LABCos) after the Bus Services Act 2025 removed the previous restriction. The guidance outlines legal, financial, governance and operational issues councils should consider before setting one up.

A LABCo is optional and one of several ways to improve bus services, alongside franchising and enhanced partnerships. Councils must assess the benefits, funding, leadership, skills and long-term sustainability before proceeding. They can create a new company or buy an existing operator, with options to run services independently or as part of wider transport arrangements. The guidance also covers procurement, subsidy control, employment matters and local government changes. Existing LABCos include #Blackpool Transport, #Ipswich Buses, #Nottingham City #Transport, Reading Buses and Warrington’s Own Buses.

  5. Sexual Health Services in #Nottinghamshire have a survey about their current website: sexualhealthnn.co.uk/latest-ne

However, nobody who visits a sexual health clinic every really wants to fill in a survey - and nobody every wants to fill in a survey about "what do you think of our website". So the whole of the NHS design will be based on the 16 people who have replied.

You can help! Fill it in with useful suggestions - even if you don't live/work in #Nottingham. Otherwise we are left in a feedback loop of the same dozen people who complete survey's.

  8. I had a great time at Splendour Festival over the weekend and sadly it's the last ever one. When money is short cultural events are always the first to be cut, but it leaves us diminished as a society.

    I will miss you Splendour!

Anyway, this picture is from the Flaming Lips set on Sunday. They were excellent as always, Do You Realize? brought a tear to my eye as always 😭

  10. The immersive Monet show running at #Nottingham Arena is only just OK. It is easily the worst immersive setup I've been too and the worst curated. Certainly not worth the money unless you can find a 60% discount code.

  11. Ooh, they've decided about the #Nottingham council reorg.

I wonder how much chaos will happen during the reorganisation phase.

  15. The #UK #Government has confirmed plans to reorganise local government in 14 more areas of #England, replacing two-tier council structures with new unitary authorities. The reforms aim to simplify services, reduce duplication and cut bureaucracy, with savings expected to be reinvested in priorities such as road maintenance and social care. Ministers say the changes will strengthen local leadership, support devolution and boost economic growth by improving planning, housing and infrastructure. Overall, 134 councils are expected to become 38 unitary authorities. The latest areas include #Kent and Medway, #Hertfordshire, #Nottinghamshire and #Nottingham, #Lancashire, #Devon, #Lincolnshire, #Gloucestershire, #Derbyshire, #Warwickshire, Worcestershire, #Oxfordshire, Leicester and Rutland, East Sussex and Brighton and Hove, and Staffordshire. Decisions on West Sussex and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will be made later.

  17. The 'windows open or closed' debate has been 'solved' by a very large fire in a scrapyard in #Nottingham causing a strong smell of burning plastic to be carried in the wind.

Either that or there's a coincidental garden fire close by burning nasty stuff.

  25. The bit that you skip #177: The Smiths – How Soon is Now?

A song with a strange lifecycle. Originally a B-side to William it was really nothing, How Soon is Now? carved a place of its own on indie darlings and their mixtapes. A song that you could dance alone to, specially if you were as terminally shy as the narrator. Sonically, it’s a far stride from what The Smiths were peddling. Jangly guitars, tambourine, and a slightly distant mixing now were replaced by studio trickery, tremolos, and a slick production.

Nothing wrong on both styles of The Smiths. They can coexist. The styles, not the band, though.

Always feels weird how so many classic bands like Joy Division, The Beatles, and The Smiths had songs with major appeal that weren’t on albums. Sure, the US edition of Meat is Murder has How Soon is Now? but for the United Kingdom, it was there, sandwiched between William it was really nothing and Please, please, please let me get what I want (at least on the 12 inch edition).

I was too young to “get” The Smiths when they were on radio. And to be honest, I think I was too much into The Cure or Depeche Mode to go for the poetic intimacy of The Smiths. What piqued my interest was Love Spit Love’s deft cover for The Craft, a movie almost all Gen Xer was attracted due to its cast and college radio friendly soundtrack.

Then This is England had Clayhill’s heartwrenching cover of Please Please Please let me get what I want. Then I really paid attention to The Smiths. It finally sink to me its importance. I remember going a few times to The Cookie Club in Nottingham on the gothic night, seeing people happily dancing by themselves listening to great tracks and not a single time was How Soon is Now? spared from being on the playlist.

I’ve mentioned before that you can accumulate a pile of “I’ll listen/read/watch later” stuff in your life and I know it’s unreasonable to believe you’ll be able to consume all of it. But start today, do a little bit. A page or two. An episode or two. Half an hour (or an act). A couple of songs. Never get stuck into a rut, listen to something new today, even if it was released decades ago. You won’t regret expanding your tastes.
