This week's instalment is from the tech run of Dirt Church by phenomenonal ecoartist /actor Jessie Ngaio. Dirt Church is running as part of Melbourne Fringe and has completely sold out!

I first met Jessie several years ago through a mentosrship program for queer disabled humans. Jessie was mentored in acting, myself in photography. We've been friends ever since and it is always a joy collaborrating with her.

Sometimes the path isn't so clear cut as this, so count your blessings when it is.

This is leading towards Sunnymeade Beach in Aireys Inlet on the lands of the Gadubanud people. This was taken on our last day visiting Lorne. What a crackerjack weekend!

This weekend is set to be another stunner so get out there and "touch some grass" if you're able.

Although with the cuts to my NDIS plan, I'm not too happy.

These images were taken at Maroondah Reservoir Park on the lands of the Wurundjeri people. I took a trip there with my support worker on Monday. We travel once a month to rural Victoria to immerse ourselves in nature so I can recalibrate. This is part of my NDIS plan. Without it I'd be lost to this world.

This week's instalment is the hero image for my friend's Melbourne Fringe performance (linked below). The synopsis for the show is, I think, quite unique. I'll be going to opening night, if you're interested.

Jessie Ngaio, the subject of the image, is an ecological warrior artist and sex clown, I highly recommend going to see her collaborative show in Naarm.

It was an honour to do this shoot with Jessie as we both champion the environment in our work and I think Jessie is a phenomenal performer and painter. We met during a 10wk mentorship program for queer, disabled artists through Midsumma Festival, and have been friends since.

The shoot was out in Harcourt, on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung people, some months after bushfires ravaged the area. By the time we drove out there, regrowth could be seen on some of the burnt out trees, giving hope of renewal.

I went on a photography adventure to rural Victoria, Malmsbury, on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung and Taungurung Peoples. It has been a while since we've been out due to illness (both of us), so it was good to get out and especially good to experience the thick fog out in nature.

This week one of my architectural images won a Commended certificate. I took this image during a trip to Ballarat, specifically looking at architecture even though I'm primarily a landscape & event photographer.

The Single Shot category is open to every kind of photography (portrait, landscape, travel, b&w, etc), so I'm pretty proud of my work.

On Wednesday I went to Snake Valley (on the lands of the Wadawurrung) with Out Doors Inc for an overnight adventure.

We did a couple of small stops. On Thursday we were meant to do a longer walk but the van got bogged for an hour in 4wd country thanks to Google maps taking us the "quickest" way. We did not end up doing the walk. Fortunately it only rained on us a bit and we managed to push the van back out & "get outta dodge" (as the saying goes).

I've been in Benalla (rural Victoria) on Yorta Yorta country for the past couple of nights.

Yesterday I went for a walk through the forest and stumbled upon this water tower. I was out appreciating nature, but these structures really floated my boat.

On Wednesday my support worker & I ventured to Queenscliff. I've been there a few times but not enough apparently to figure out where West is, so did not get the heavenly Sunset in my images, but I am happy with the images I took.

This week's instalment is from Kingston Park on Kaurna country. I was there this week with family at the caravan park to scatter our ma's ashes on the beach.

We watched as she was washed out to sea. It was a sad occasion, we all had a cry, but it was cathartic to send her off on her final voyage as per her wishes.

Us siblings wear a pendant with some ashes inside, so she comes with us everywhere still (she does more exercise now than she was ever accustomed to 😅). Regardless, she is forever in our hearts, loved always.

First one for 2026, however I actually took this piccie with my mobile on the 22nd of December on the lands of the Wadawurrung people at Point Lonsdale Lighthouse.

I've been here several times, yet to get a sunset or sunrise that pops, but love it here so much. On this visit the tide was very low, so there were lots of yummy rock pools. There was a chill in the air so not many people, which is great for landscape photography.

This is an image I took with a disposable camera a while back. My partner got the negs printed for Xmas. Whilst most are terrible and half didn't print, I like the grainy moodiness of this print. You can basically feel the chill of the day. What do you think?

Back in November, when I went out to West Desert hunting the #aurora I had no idea I had captured the lights in several images. I have some others that also have the lights. I intend to experiment with and will probably post them eventually, which I think show it better. But unedited, this is the most fun!

On Monday my support worker & I went on hikes across the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung people. We ventured to Vaughan and Harcourt & amongst the day we stopped at the Specimen Gully Gold Memorial in Barkers Creek. This stone hut a remnant of the early gold era here in Victoria.

I have been diagnosed with Costochondritis so I had to cut the day short due to being in pain but enjoyed being in nature. I believe nature is tonic for the soul, so please make time to "touch grass" whenever you can.

A couple of weeks ago I was hired to photograph the play "The Last Sunday in June", which played at Chapel Off Chapel, in Prahran (Naarm).

Some really strong performances, so it meant a great deal to me to be able to take images that shone a light on gay life and superb acting.

This Monday my support worker & I took off to Ballarat to walk around Lake Wendouree on Wadawurrung Country. I truly love this lake. Conditions weren't set for a popping sunset, but it was stunning nonetheless. Here's a photo I took with my phone as we were heading back to the car.

I've just spent ten days in Fiji and I highly recommend it. This image was taken at Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park on the Coral Coast. We took the two hour hiking option and I was trepidatious to begin with, having been told prior that the Fijian rugby 7's team trains there because it's so tough.

Whilst walking up the first sand dune was tough, I have to say that the dunes at Wilsons Promontory, Victoria, Australia are much harder to traverse.

The weather was 29/30°C every day, low humidity, and this day was the cloudiest of the trip (wouldn't you know it). I was hoping for minimal cloud, but you take what you're given as a landscape photographer.

In the image is my partner, Michael, who bounded up the dune far quicker than I.

In my household we don't celebrate sports, we certainly don't take a public holiday for it. Today I went to my regular exercise physiology appointment in the morning then helped my partner at The Little Bookroom, bumping in until 7pm.

This image is from a photography adventure to Clifton Springs that I took recently with my support worker. I love the moody monochromatic blue hues. On this day there were gale force winds so I could not set up my tripod for long exposures, but I had fun nonetheless.

On Sunday we went to Cornella to walk through canola fields. Upon arriving we saw all of the people in the fields and our expectations lowered. However, the fields were so large and there were so many tracks to walk through that I could take images without random people in my shots.

For the next two nights I'm on the lands of the Gunaikurnai people. Yarram, for the most part.

My partner, Michael Earp (who just bought The Little Bookroom - the world's longest running children's bookstore - in Naarm) was on a panel at the Gippsland Writer's Festival. We're going waterfall hunting tomorrow.

I have been here plenty of times (it's a natural mecca) but not during peak season and I've gotta say, I actually enjoyed it. There's so much to do besides the beaches that you can actually get away & surround yourself with Mother nature without the frothing hordes.

These two images are from Tidal River before a cold snap came through (along with torrential wind and rain).

What you can't see is the girl gang who climbed up a large boulder to the right of the river and blasted their stereo so loud they had to shout to be heard over the top. To quote an Aussie movie phrase: "There goes the serenity." (The Castle).

It got so bitterly cold and we were only in shorts and tank top that I packed it up before blue hour started. Unfortunately that's when the colours started to pop & I missed out. I have to be thankful for the bliss that I did capture. Enjoy!

Went on an overnight camp with Out Doors Inc, for adults living with disabilities. We canoed around Lake Eppalock the first day & hiked the second, with baked potatoes for dinner in between days.

It's Photography Friday, friends.

Today I want to talk about this kookaburra, or rather, what this kookaburra used to mean to my ma.

My ma always believed she was being visited by those who had passed. Sometimes she saw them in spectral form. More often her friends and family came in the form of a kookaburra.

Living in the city I don't get visited by kookaburras ever, so when I saw this beauty, I was quite emotional. However, I was with my Out Doors Inc group (highly recommended if you're on the NDIS & live for Country) so had to hold it together in front of strangers.

My heart ache comes on abruptly, punches my gut randomly. In these moments though, I just want to share the beauty with my ma who was so proud of me for getting out of my comfort zones. This time, I believe she was with me.

Happy Photography Friday friends.

Last month I had the honour of photographing the Mapping Peace Festival here in Merri-Bek, Naarm. So many phenomenal performance artists and dancers (such as Wojak, and Yumi Umiumare) curated by the outstanding Tony Yap.

These three images were taken from the last event of the festival - the open floor invitation - where all artists, and those who had been training under Tony over the month, could take to the floor and feel the music. Transcendental chaos ensued and my heart danced with joy.

These artists took time to chat with me between performances throughout the weekend I was there and encouraged me to live my dreams. Despite my physical and mental setbacks, I live a blessed life getting to capture such special moments from rapturous humans, and am so grateful for this opportunity.

Okay, I really like 35mm. I’ve been shooting 50mm as my main lens for a long time, but recently I’ve been finding it too long for anything but portraits.
With 35 I can kind of just point and shoot inside rooms and still get something interesting and useable.
Having the additional context of the scene is really nice.
