My 4th grade teacher counted down from 5 when she wanted our attention. The number she was on when we got quiet was how many Jolly Ranchers went in a jar. When the jar was full, she passed out the Jolly Ranchers. This meant we got a paltry 2 or 3 about once a month, which is why I frequently snuck into the classroom during lunch and stuffed handfuls of Jolly Ranchers in my pockets. Funny thing is, I never thought twice about it when other teachers just shouted “Alright kids, quiet down!” So if you have power, never give up the slightest amount or negotiate to reward behavior. Demand total obedience. #WednesdayWisdom

Good morning Mastodonians! SItting here in the boardroom, ready for today's BOD meeting. I'm "hosting" but not presiding, which is OK. I just nommed down a poppy seed bagel because hey, I don't need a drug test for anything.
The dressing room is taking shape and I have almost all my clothes in assigned spaces; it's frightening, and I have space left. Nature abhors a vacuum so I'm sure it'll fill up soon.

Good morning Mastodonians! Well, despite warnings of crack-of-doom, wrath-of-Thor storms last night, with lightning and high winds....we got some steady rain, some thunder, and gentle breezes occasionally. Made for nice sittin' on the porch, that's for sure.
This morning we've got clear skies and some downed branches, but nothing close to the devastation they warned us of. Fine with me. I tried a new muffin recipe, had a nice dinner, did some more unpacking. And now I'm back at work...the weather is looking to be pretty reasonable for the foreseeable future, which is fine with me; I'm done with oppressive heat.

Good morning Mastodonians! Got some extra sleep last night, and am feeling much better. Honestly, yesterday I felt like I'd been up all night, which I hadn't. Made me wonder what was going on. Oh well, I'm doing better today.
Sitting in the board room while board members filter in for our big board meeting today. Whoopie-do! It's still relatively cool but humid and overcast; likely to be so for a few days yet. No sun till next week!

Good Morning Mastodonians! Back to the usual stuff, here at the office, and it's supposed to be a nasty day. I've even seen people urging MAGA folks to NOT go to DC for the 4th because it will be miserable, and the administration is focusing on security at the expense of safety. So stay inside and stay hydrated!

Good morning Mastodonians! A clear, dry, lovely morning after yesterday's much-needed rain.
Gonna try to get a library card today, am looking at memberships in a couple of local makerspaces, and realized with a shudder that I qualify for a senior citizen discount at one. But I might as well.....after all, people keep telling me that I look very young for 60. (Still have that pink skin and bright eyes, according to my stylist!) Clean livin' helps; ran into a friend who's going sober after years of addiction issues. Good for him, but he's only in his 40s and looks about 70. But that's what drugs do....
Anyway, my brain's all over the place today, as you can tell.

Good morning Mastodonians! A hellish commute this morning, thanks to tangled traffic and rain...we need it, badly, but it's not enough.
Found my 35' tape measure and yesterday I measured my house! Well, I got the floor dimensions and the window measurements so I have a decent idea of what rugs and curtains to buy. Internet to be set up on Friday, security system on Saturday, and moving on the 19th...wow!

Good morning Mastodonians! Clear and warmer than yesterday; it's supposed to get flat-out hot this weekend. Oh well, it's June.
A couple of housewarming gifts have already arrived; so far a wool blanket, an electric skillet, a paper towel holder, and a steak knife set. I'm taking advantage of this to build the household I want and fill in the stuff I don't have or need to replace...

Good morning Mastodonians! Another gray drizzly warm one here; it was foggy as I drove in today. Part of my current drive to work takes me past a marsh with tall dry marsh grass, quite a sight in the mist.
Welp, yesterday I got word that the seller had completed all requested repairs, my mortgage was approved to be underwritten, and I signed a bunch of insurance papers and arranged to have the power in my name starting on Friday. So today is the day....if anything bad happens, will probably be today.

Last week when we went to #Nashville for Sarah’s eye appointment we stopped at #CrackerBarrel on the way home. As we walked in, I heard Eddie Rabbit singing about how much he loved a rainy night. Aw, high school memories. Even still, I caught myself muttering under my breath along with Eddie, I hate a rainy night, I hate a rainy night. Well, today it’s a rainy night in Knoxville. Hmm, sounds like a good song title though it’s vaguely familiar. Anyway, it actually rained all day. I went out to bring the garbage cans in from the curb, and by the time I got back into the garage I was soaking wet, I mean like I had been hit full force by a Super Soaker. My shirt was soaked clear through so it was actually heavy on me, so straight into the laundry it went. So, I can say that, while I don’t really hate a rainy night, or even a rainy day, it’s not my favorite thing in the world either. #WednesdayWisdom

Good morning Mastodonians! Another warm and clear one; had some rain last night which has eased THE POLLENING but it's still bad. But leaves are pushing out so this means the pollen counts should start dwindling....mid-April is generally the peak.
Boss is out today at a conference in NJ, and I'm possibly looking at another house today, so I better get cracking on what I need to do...

Good morning Mastodonians! I'm back! I survived the last week and I'm still sore and achy and I feel like I've aged about 10 years but I'm still here and jumping back into house hunting. And working. Staying with friends, and I'm sure the aches will quell in a few days....
I had quite a compliment....I chatted with the junk haulers yesterday, giving them a few stories about stuff I've experienced, and I made a joke about being sixty, and one of them paused. "You're SIXTY?!?!" I affirmed it. "Man, I want to be like YOU when I'm sixty! You've lived so much and you still have a lot of life in you!" One of the nicest things I've heard in a while.

Good morning Mastodonians! I'm doing my best here. The derailment of my home purchase has left me staggering and confused, and wondering what my next step will be. I have to be out of my apartment by Tuesday, so I have no choice. I have friends who can put me up for a while but I'm gonna have to throw myself into househunting again. This SUCKS.
But yeah, I'm about to be homeless, technically. At least I have the luxury of friends who care and all that, but it's a weird feeling.
