Interestingly, the hurricane fence you see was not visible a couple days ago. It was completely buried under the dune. Another hurricane fence was further east and visible. The further east fence was destroyed two days ago - the other fence making an appearance is a testament to the extent of erosion.

Nor'Easters are in the news again, for good reason. Growing up on the Jersey Shore, hurricaines were always cause for concern. It's the Nor'Easters, though, that really frighten us. I'm certain that long time residents of Long Beach Island are still traumatized by memories of the 1962 Ash Wednesday storm.
