Finally the weather is changing and we're getting cooler nights and - gasp! - some real rain. Everyone (human, animal, plant, fungi) is relieved that the uncharacteristic dry of the summer seems to be over for now.
I remember years ago, reading someone's blog and they followed the pagan seasons and they were talking about the Spring equinox being a time of rebirth and renewal, and I said, that's interesting, because here our autumn offers a time to recharge after a hot summer, and she told me no, autumn was a time of preparation for the long winter and not renewal, and this is one of those moments where it reinforced to me that you can't just apply local knowledge globally
