A collection of fragments from the most recent πŸ‡΅πŸ‡· return.

Set to β€œVoltarei” (I will return) since that’s no longer a question of β€œif” and barely even β€œwhen.” Some loose thoughts and observations from being off the grid:
β€’ The island moves on island time. It’s best to go along with it. The rush of the rest of the world is fake anyway.
β€’ A human touch is not only required, it’s the best way to accomplish pretty much anything, from ordering coffee to getting the most out of an experience. The β€œcontactlessness” of everything back home after COVID has degraded our social fabric.
β€’ AquΓ se habla espaΓ±ol. But no worries if you’re not fluent like me. Just try.
β€’ Speaking of coffee: there is no Dunkin. Convenience coffee isn’t really a thing. Coffee after 2pm? Good luck. (Do you really need it?)
β€’ I feel accepted here. People don’t ignore you or pretend not to notice you. They acknowledge you and actually talk to you. I feel safer here. The social anxiety I carry back home just doesn’t exist here. I’m not surprised, but I have definitely noticed.
β€’ Clocking out of work or school and going straight to the beach for the rest of the evening is a luxury that few back home can truly appreciate in all its depth.
β€’ The culture is alive in a way that it isn’t back home. The history is alive. You see it walking around, you walk over it, under it, through it, and into it. You feel it in the depths of the forest, at the tops of the mountains, and in the maze of the ancient streets.
