  1. 2/2 Just a year after an amazing study* by Li Yao et al., doi.org/10.1016/j.indcrop.2025) used 700+ complete plastomes of these three species confirming and enhancing 10+ year old research showing that plastomes are not sorted by species like in all #oaks and not few other Fagales. Common knowledge, unless you are an editor for BMC Genomics or SIT professor.

*A study naturally struggling getting through #PeerReview being too complex for the Q1s and ending up in some minor journal.

  6. I'm quite happy to announce a new publication, which was done in collaboration with a visiting Italian PhD student (who collaborated in an experiment of one of our PhD students) and her original Italian team. It is always a great pleasure, when such a visit is crowned by the rapid publication of the data 🙂
The subject is quite specialised, concerning a comparison of methods to estimate the resistance to CO2 movements inside the leaf. An important subject for all kind of biomass productions, because individuals / genotypes / provenances / species with less resistance are able to increase their photosynthesis.
    doi.org/10.1016/j.envexpbot.20

our publication is also specifically connected to responses of #Oaks #Trees to #Drought and #HighTemperature #Climatewarming

  11. I've been discombobulated since C died. Much more than I was for A. A ride helped, but a week of drizzly rain kept me off the tracks. I didn't really want to ride, anyway—too full of self pity, sadness, & my own mortality. Wallowing didn't help.🙄

I rode, & thought. 2.5hrs riding, maybe 30 mins thinking? It felt like a lot, but those unthinking spaces, when it's solely the ride, are key.

    Anyway, it *was* good.

  16. Why are mountain #forests in Mexico and Central America hotspots for oak #trees? phys.org/news/2026-05-mountain paper: dx.doi.org/10.1073/pnas.253704

"Red and white #oaks independently migrated into the #mountains of Mexico about 25 million years ago. The two groups diversified along a parallel path, rapidly evolving into a remarkable array of species. Now, #Mexico and #CentralAmerica are home to at least 160 different oaks: 40% of global diversity... Each #oak species hosts a unique community of life"
