It's nice being a Jewish Pagan, a 'Jewitch' if you will, when holidays synchronise. Rosh HaShana and Autumn Equinox together.
I had a Rosh HaShana dinner with friends, with the traditional apple dipped in honey, and served seasonal berries with the dessert honey cake.
My local woods generously gives oak and holly leaves, perfect for the equinox. I put them on the tray next to the holiday candles.

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, days will be shorter than the nights, Autumn begins and brings us the months with the most abundance of fruit and vegetables. This is the time of year when deities like Demeter and Dionysos were praised with harvest festivals. Persephone either returns or descends to the underworld, depending on the interpretation.

Sunday- day of the #AutumnEquinox was a bit rainy off and on, so I didn't do my main seasonal/remembrance altar (that was yesterday instead, posts yet to come!). Instead, I went for a bit of a #SlowWalk and made an impromptu altar with some odds and ends I picked up along the way-added to a bench that had bits of wood I kept aside from last winter's woodcutting. I've been making an #altar for #AutumnEquinox (and some of the other key #Solar dates) for some years now. Several years back it gained an extra level of meaning for me, as my Mother died at this time.
Now, the altar marks the #season : the richness of #fruit and #flower and #seed of remaining #green and burgeoning #AutumnColour as #Saule turns her face to the south and #LeafMother paints the world in jewel tones. (cont)
