Given the number of people who live in the suburbs affected, I think they might be understating the scale of the problem. My guess at a more accurate description for the stat is "Number of customers who have reported a problem...that we know of."
During the hour since the power outage started, the number climbed to approximately 6000 households. Then it froze, and CitiPower's estimated time until return of service disappeared.
How long will people endure this power outage before they crack and (in the words of @aeduna) nude-up and burn shit?

Yesterday, the journey from Manchester back to my home in Wigan took over three hours. With trains out of action due to a power outage, I had to take three buses. To compound matters, the final one was delayed due to an accident.
I was unsettled by the late change in plans, uncertainty and crowded buses, but at least I managed to give blood before the chaos began. In stark contrast to the rail disruption, the process only took a few minutes. As always, the NHS Blood Donation team was friendly and efficient. Thank you 🔴
