NWS Wakefield boffins expect another typical early fall (Sep, Oct, Nov) fall day. A meteorological stoppage is holding Canadian cold air to our north. This ridge is likely to move on early next week per Ryan Hall.
Anyway, our weather hazard map is clear except for beach hazards and small craft cautions.
Outside the area, thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected from the Texas panhandle to the Ohio River Valley. The heat remains on in the heart of Texas.

From Ryan Hall Y’all on FB: SPC just upgraded the tornado wording on today's outlook for Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey. They've now added the significant tornado flag, which means a strong, long-track tornado is on the table this afternoon and evening, not just a brief spin-up along a line of storms.
Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Baltimore are the cities sitting closest to the bullseye. Baltimore's best window for storms runs 1 to 9 PM, with activity likely busiest around 3 PM. The overall risk category didn't change, but this kind of same-day upgrade is SPC's way of saying the setup got a little more serious than it looked this morning. Good day to make sure your phone can get you a warning if one gets issued near you.

Vermont has some strong storms rolling through and it looks like they're pushing towards the NH border.
I don't think I'll get much where I am, but we'll see how it shakes out.

Power Outages Top 500,000 As Severe Weather Batters Several States
Story by Jan Wesner Childs, August 7, 2023
"More than 500,000 homes and businesses were without power across five states as severe storms packing damaging winds and hail battered the South and moved east.
"Downed trees and roof damage were reported in several areas, including parts of #Tennessee and #Mississippi.
"Hail crashed down in several areas, including around #Huntington, #WestVirginia.
"Top power outage numbers as of about 6:15 p.m. eastern time, according to PowerOutage.us: more than 130,000 in #NorthCarolina; about 120,000 in #Georgia; more than 100,000 in #Maryland; about 97,000 in #Tennessee; and 73,000 in #Virginia.
"The severe weather was part of an outbreak of severe storms in the East and South expected to produce widespread damaging wind gusts, hail, flooding rainfall and isolated tornadoes.
"Areas likely to be most affected were northern Alabama, northern and central Georgia and much of South Carolina northward to the mid-Atlantic. Cities include #Atlanta, #Baltimore, #Charlotte, #Philadelphia and #WashingtonDC."
