From NC’s Weather Authority on FB: Tropical Update: Well, it is that time of year when we turn our attention way into the Atlantic near the coast of Africa and watch for tropical waves to come off the coast of Africa, which is what is happening now. The Atlantic is starting to show some signs of life in the Main Development Region; there are two tropical waves that the National Hurricane Center is monitoring, and I'm watching them as well.
The first one has a 20% chance of development into something tropical over the next 7 days, and the one waiting to come off of Africa has a 50% chance of Tropical development. Neither poses an immediate threat to any landmasses or NC and may never, but I'll monitor this over the next 7-14 days and keep you posted if things become concerning at this point. Conditions are not overly favorable for significant development due to dry air and high wind shear over parts of the tropical Atlantic.
Back here at home no reason to panic or worry; we see this every year, and all we can do is stay aware and go on with our lives. It's hurricane season in North Carolina! If I am concerned, I'll let you know; I am not just watching the trends for now!

It wouldn’t be a Friday without a Dismal Nasty or Nice outlook. Ryan’s query finds possible nice weather (blues) over much of the country but pockets of nastiness remain in the Deep South and the heart of Texas.
Heavy weather is possible in Acela Land stretching from Washington to NY. And also in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Excessive rainfall may accompany slow moving or training thunderstorms.
Hazardous heat is expected in the southwest and New England.
-
Your Friday Dismal Manor Foreast summary is for continued #HHH with increasing #FUGLY. Friday’s weather hazard map is clear.
But isolated supper time thunderstorms are possible.
Locally, severe storms are not expected but scattered thunderstorms, some severe, are possible in Foggy Bottom and points north.
Expect fair winds and following seas on the Chesapeake Bay except where thunderstorms are present. Scattered severe storms are possible on the northern Bay.
-
Thursday’s Nasty or Nice outlook begins with Ryan Hall’s nice weather outlook. Much of the US will have mostly sunny weather with the exception of the Deep South and Desert Southwest.
Thunderstorms are possible over much of the eastern US. Excessive rainfall may accompany slow moving or stronger storms.
Excessive heat remains possible in the Deep South, desert southwest, and parts of the Northeast.
