From County of Hawaii: As of 5:00am this morning Tropical Depression Moke was located approximately 715 miles southwest of Hilo and moving west at 14mph and producing winds of up to 35 mph.

Moke is expected to remain on its westward track and move away from Hawaii Island and continue to weaken.

Although conditions are forecast to improve, parts of Hawaii Island may continue to experience gusty winds and possibly heavy rains and the potential for flooding.

Hawaii Island remains on a Flood Watch through this afternoon.

Rainfall of up to 2-4 inches may occur in some areas across the windward and southeast slopes of Hawaii Island. This includes the Kau district where grounds may be saturated and areas impacted significantly by Hurricane Lala.

Please anticipate possible hazardous road conditions and drive safely.

Recovery efforts from Hurricane Lala continue and include power and communications restoration and road and highway repairs and clearing.

Motorists are asked to avoid the Kau District if possible to allow for area residents to conduct their clean up and recovery activities without interference and allow for essential road repair operations to be completed effectively and safely.

From Ryan Hall Y’all on FB: Level 2 risk today for damaging wind and large hail across Nebraska, North Dakota, and Louisiana, roughly 6.9 million people inside that zone. Up in North Dakota, storms near Fargo could start as rotating cells with big hail before clustering up, with the best hail window running 4 PM to midnight and peaking near 6 this evening. Down along the Gulf coast, Baton Rouge and nearby Louisiana towns are watching a wind threat that ramps up quickly this afternoon and peaks close to 3 PM. There's also a tornado risk today, but it covers a much smaller part of the overall area, mainly tied to those Nebraska and North Dakota storms before they line out.

From County of Hawaii on FB: The National Weather Service 5:00 bulletin reports Tropical Storm Moke has weakened and is now a Tropical Depression.

Currently Moke is located approximately 335 miles southeast of Hilo and moving west at 14mph.

Moke is presently producing winds of 35 mph.

Although the system has weakened and the wind hazard has decreased, Moke continues to present with the potential for heavy rains and possible flood conditions.

The Flood Watch for Hawaii Island is forecast to remain in effect through tomorrow afternoon. Of particular concern for possible flooding are the areas of Kau that were significantly impacted by Hurricane Lala and where ground conditions remain saturated.

For those in need of shelter assistance, the Naalehu School Gym and Robert Herkes Gym in Pahala will remain open through tonight and into tomorrow.

From County of Hawaii: Tropical Storm Moke is forecast to pass South of Hawaii Island today. Maximum sustained winds of 45 mph extend outward up to 90 miles as Tropical Storm Moke moves West at 15 mph.

There are currently no coastal watches or warnings associated with Tropical Storm Moke but there is a Flood Watch for Hawaii Island through Monday. However, heavy rain, 5 to 10 inches, and wind, especially at higher elevations, are forecast to impact Hawaii Island today through Monday.

As a precaution, you should stay off the roads and shelter in place today. Or you can take shelter at one of the following locations:

Yano Hall in Captain Cook
Naalehu Elementary School
Robert Herkes Gym in Pahala
Keaau Armory
Puueo Community Center in Wainaku
Correction to the shelter list. It is the Pahoa Senior Center and not the Pahala Senior Center as previously announced.

Rain will then spread westward across the remainder of the Hawaiian Islands through Monday. From County of Hawaii on FB: As of 11:00 am this morning Tropical Storm Moke was located approximately 425 miles southeast of Hilo and moving in a west-northwest direction at 12 mph. Currently Moke is producing sustained winds of up to 50 mph with higher gusts. Little strengthening is forecast for the remainder of the day, followed by a gradual weakening of the system beginning tomorrow. On the current track, Moke is expected to pass to the south of Hawaii Island beginning tomorrow morning.

Tropical Storm Moke is expected to bring strong winds, heavy rains, and possible flooding conditions beginning tonight and through tomorrow and into Monday.

Strong wind conditions are forecast to begin this afternoon peaking tonight and into early Sunday morning. Areas of concern are Kau, lower Puna, the Hamakua coast, and Kohala.

Heavy rains that could present with flooding conditions are forecast to begin late tonight and remain through Monday afternoon. Areas of interest or concern for flooding are the windward and southeast slopes of Hawaii Island.

Residents and businesses in flood prone areas, especially those impacted by Hurricane Lala, are advised to prepare for possible additional flood impacts and consider relocating from the area before storm conditions begin.

For those who may need a place to shelter, the following County shelters will be available:

The Naalehu School Gym and the Robert Herkes Gym in Pahala are open at this time.
The Pahoa Senior Center, Keaau Armory, Puueo Community Center in Hilo and the Yano Hall in Kona will be opened at 8:00 pm this evening.

Flood Watch has been issued for the Island of Hawaii effective late Saturday through Monday. Tropical Storm Moke is located approximately 660 miles southeast of Hilo, moving west-northwest at 10 MPH, with maximum sustained winds of 45 MPH.
A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding to occur. Flooding can be life-threatening.
Rainfall of 5 to 10 inches with localized rains of up to 15 inches is forecast for windward and southeast areas of Hawaii Island starting late Saturday.
Conditions are expected to cause flash flooding, possible worsening of power outages, loss of communications, and road closures.
Due to Tropical Storm Moke:
• Hawaii Island residents and businesses, please take this time to prepare for possible bad weather.
• If you are in a flood prone area or if you concerned that your location may be unsafe, please consider relocating to a safer location.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Tornado Watch for portions of
District Of Columbia
Delaware
Central and Eastern Maryland
Central and Southern New Jersey
Southeast Pennsylvania
Northern Virginia
Coastal Waters

* Effective this Thursday afternoon and evening from 255 PM until
1000 PM EDT.

* Primary threats include...
A couple tornadoes possible
Scattered damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts
to 75 mph possible
Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY...Scattered severe thunderstorms are forecast to continue to
develop and intensify through the afternoon and into the evening. A
few of the stronger storms will be supercells capable of a risk for
tornadoes, damaging gusts, and large hail. A consolidation of
storms will probably occur during the evening as one or two line
segments develops with an attendant risk for damaging winds and
possibly a tornado.

The tornado watch area is approximately along and 70 statute miles
north and south of a line from 15 miles southwest of Washington DC
to 45 miles east northeast of Dover DE. For a complete depiction of

From Ryan Hall Y’all on FB: SPC just upgraded the tornado wording on today's outlook for Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey. They've now added the significant tornado flag, which means a strong, long-track tornado is on the table this afternoon and evening, not just a brief spin-up along a line of storms.

Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Baltimore are the cities sitting closest to the bullseye. Baltimore's best window for storms runs 1 to 9 PM, with activity likely busiest around 3 PM. The overall risk category didn't change, but this kind of same-day upgrade is SPC's way of saying the setup got a little more serious than it looked this morning. Good day to make sure your phone can get you a warning if one gets issued near you.
