Posting this here in the hope we can reach a few #authors on #bookstodon ... We now have authors participating in Fiction Fest from every part of Canada except Newfoundland & Labrador, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. We're still accepting sign ups from all provinces/territories, but If you are a Canadian author living in any of those 3 places, we would especially love to have you join us in our summer showcase.
This is a completely online/virtual event and it already has a really good mix of tradpub, indie and hybrid authors signed up. It comprises of a book showcase and author gallery, plus a roster of live author readings and discussion panels.
It's free to join, you don't need to provide copies of your books, and this is a grassroots cooperative effort that has all of us working together to shout out each other's books and #CanLit in general.
We are also accepting #Canadian illustrators of graphic novels and picture books (even if the text of the book they illustrated is not written by a Canadian).

If that woman dies, the officer should be charged with manslaughter. Especially as he may have caused her head trauma during the arrest.
This guy definitely thought he was saving the day. In truth, he was engaging in abuse and made it clear to the public that he poses a threat for as long as he's an officer.

I hoped to see caribou while I was in Newfoundland. I did not. I know they were close. I found their spoor, and a few times, I caught a strong whiff of them. "The #Innu say the project, begun in the late 1960’s and completed in the 1970’s, has flooded a vast area of ancestral lands causing #environmental and #cultural harm to their people.
"In a statement, Innu Grand Chief Etienne Rich said, 'Over 50 years ago, #HydroQuébec and the provincial utility in #Newfoundland and #Labrador now called #NalcorEnergy, through the Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corporation, stole our land and flooded it in order to take advantage of the enormous hydro potential of the #ChurchillFalls,' adding, 'This project was undertaken without consulting us and without our consent'.
"The Innu leaders said the flooded area of over 5,000 sq/km has covered traditional #BurialGrounds, hunting areas, #caribou migration paths and habitat for wildlife they depend on. They also said there was no #environmental assessment of the mega project, the second largest power generation project in #Canada, and among the biggest in the world."
