So you can keep your eyes

WHAT'S UP?! - Here's what to look for in the sky tonight over the Midwest (Wednesday, July 15).

🪐 Venus - 10° above the W horizon, visible with just your eyes.
⭐ Scorpius - red-orange Antares anchors Scorpius, curling low across the southern sky.
🌑 Moon: only 4% illuminated - dark skies tonight, great for stargazing.

Bottom line: step outside after dark, let your eyes adjust for 5-10 minutes, and you'll see all of this with no equipment required.

Observing Mercury is pretty much impossible for large parts of the year because it's either close to being in front of the Sun or behind the Sun. And when it is in a good position to see, there's a good chance it happens at an ungodly early time before sunrise.

Right now, Mercury is in a very good position to see after sunset. And every day around sunset, the Northwestern sky here is clouding up. 🌥️

I am still wondering how it actually looks, and how Ancient people knew about it.
