"The largest land holding in Cochamó is no longer for sale. Conserva Puchegüín, a locally driven conservation initiative comprised of multiple organizations, raised more than $78 million to purchase and support the long-term protection and effective management of #FundoPuchegüín, a 328,351-acre property of undeveloped nature in the heart of the Cochamó district in Chile’s northern Patagonia.
"The purchase ends years of uncertainty over the future of Fundo Puchegüín after the previous owner put the property up for sale in 2022. Now begins a new phase of enduring protection and long-term management of the area.
"With the registration process of new ownership complete, Conserva Puchegüín will work toward implementing a governance and management model with an approach that prioritizes community participation and #conservation science.

"The two nature organizations are hitting the trails again this winter to explore some of the beautiful locations around the Peconic Estuary. This is a great chance to learn more about the coastal habitats in the watershed. Walks are open to all ages, please register ahead of time so we may contact you in the event of a cancellation or rescheduling.
Please dress for your comfort, warm layers, hats and gloves are encouraged. Plan to meet at the trailhead and begin walks shortly after the given start time. If you are running late or can no longer attend a walk you have signed up for please let the organizers know. We will do our best to wait for all confirmed registrants.
This year the groups are starting a new Winter Watershed Walk Challenge and continuing the hot chocolate tradition after the walks! They’ll bring the thermos, you bring a reusable mug!
Attend any walk and get entered into a raffle to win a swag bag from Peconic Baykeeper and Peconic Estuary Partnership! Swag bag includes t-shirts and hats, tote bag, a reusable water bottle, and a pet waste bag dispenser!

I went on a hike by myself today (#IndianCellarPreserve). I love to hike by myself because I can meander, take photos, observe birds, see what's growing and what isn't. An hour-long hike can easily take me 2-1/2 hours. And since there isn't hunting allowed, I didn't wear any orange -- instead wore all black (including a hat). Well, between what I was wearing, and my uneven steps, a couple hanging out by the river thought I was a bear! Nah. Just an armchair historian and nature-lover -- who happily filled them in about the history of the area!

An hour-long hike can easily take me 2-1/2 hours. And since there isn't hunting allowed, I didn't wear any orange -- instead wore all black (including a hat). Well, between what I was wearing, and my uneven steps, a couple hanging out by the river thought I was a bear! Nah. Just an armchair historian and nature-lover -- who happily filled them in about the history of the area!

I went on a hike by myself today (#IndianCellarPreserve). I love to hike by myself because I can meander, take photos, observe birds, see what's growing and what isn't. "Shrubs are a key part of New England landscapes. This program will take a close look at about ten common native New England shrubs, such as high bush blueberry, silky dogwood, sheep laurel, meadowsweet and steeplebush as well as a few non-native invasive shrubs. The program will focus on plant identification as well as fun and interesting #NaturalHistory. We’ll see a plant which colonial Americans used to make candles, a plant whose fruit sea captains used to bring on long voyages to help prevent scurvy, and a plant which the Chippewa used to restore balance in their lives. And as winter is coming and the leaves are going, we’ll also consider some winter identification characteristics. Children ages 10 and up are welcome to register if accompanied by an adult."

Cost: Free"Though it isn't always obvious the treasures we find on the beach can tell us stories about the land, the ocean and the beach itself.
"While strolling #LaudholmBeach, we will explore the shore through questions about and investigations of sand, the wrack line and found objects.
"Program will start at the Gazebo with a quick introduction to tides before we head down the trail (~15-20 min walk) to the beach.
"Hats, water, sunscreen, and footwear that works both for the trail and beach are recommended.
"Program duration is about 2 hours and ends at the beach."
