  1. Two different footpath trails - leading out from the native plant garden. The rock steps trail leads to the short boardwalk that connects to a dock, over the lake, that has seating. The gravel path leads you to the lake loop trail, across the wetlands/marshes (prime frogs/turtles spotting area), over a long boardwalk that connects one side of the lake to the other. *In really rainy times - the trails on other side of lake get flooded out.

  7. Rex Welland was a longtime local resident who loved collecting lots of #HeritageApple species. He spent a lifetime, collecting cuttings & grafting to grow in his large backyard. He donated this land, which was his backyard, as part of #LandConservancy agreement with the Town of View Royal to keep it as a heritage orchard for the community to steward & share.

    There's 125 heritage #apple species growing there.

  8. #Hardhack aka #RoseSpirea - #SpiraeaDouglasii

#NativePlant in #PacificNorthwest regions. We've used this plant at several habitat/ecological restoration areas - across Southern #VancouverIsland. It is an excellent plant for riparian revegetation & pollinators love their bright pink, tiny flowers too.

#PNW #Indigenous peoples use the plant for making brooms & for hanging seafood to cook.

It grows in almost any soil conditions, even very dry & gravelly soil but prefers boggy/wet areas.
