It is about whether Congress will respect the Mohawk people – the Kanien’kehá:ka as we say in our own language — as a living people with our own governance, laws,
responsibilities, language, culture, and relationship to the land — or whether Congress will again treat us as a problem to be settled, divided, and erased. We are here to say clearly: #S3475 must be opposed. At minimum, it must be paused, and if it is ever to move forward, it must be substantially amended.
