  5. 🙏🇵🇸This assistance is distributed to us by the World Food Programme #WFP two food boxes and one bag of flour as a monthly ration. But because of the blockade, shortages of supplies and funding, we have been receiving it only once every three months. Since the war between Israel and Iran, it has stopped completely.
The ration currently contains a bag of flour; the first box has rice, lentils, salt and tahini/sirij oil; and the second contains canned foods, mainly beans and ground chickpeas, with very little variety.
We are not rejecting this assistance or underestimating its value. We are grateful for everything humanitarian organizations are trying to provide under such difficult circumstances. But when a family has a child suffering from malnutrition, there needs to be some flexibility in the contents of the food ration.
My 7-year-old son Abdullah is classified as malnourished (red status). I update his information and report his condition every time. I have taken him to medical points, where I receive whatever they are able to provide, but many of the nutritional supplements and vitamins appropriate for his age are simply unavailable.
I am struggling to provide Abdullah with the vitamins and healthy food he needs. When I cannot afford them, I sometimes have to take them from the pharmacy on credit and pay later.
Abdullah needs nutritious food suitable for his age and condition—foods rich in protein and energy, appropriate milk, and foods fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, according to the recommendations of specialists.
We are not asking for luxury or extra food simply for the sake of having more. We are asking for the real nutritional needs of a child who has been classified as malnourished.
Families are not all the same, and children's needs are not all the same. Food assistance should not be treated as simply a fixed quantity of food distributed in exactly the same way to everyone. We are human beings, and every child has different needs—especially children suffering from or at risk of malnutrition.
We hope that Abdullah's condition, and the conditions of other children like him, can be taken into consideration and that food assistance can be adapted, in coordination with specialists, to meet their actual nutritional needs.🇵🇸🙏‼️

  6. 🌍 The contributions of #MissingMaps volunteers are more than @openstreetmap data points. In Baidoa, Somalia, mapping buildings in June supported a survey conducted by @DoctorsWithoutBorders in July, shedding light on the needs of displaced persons. The MSF teams screened more than 21,000 children under 5. The results were published in a press release on August 11. Alarmingly, every second child was malnourished and 1 in 4 acutely malnourished: prezly.msf.org.uk/somalia-surv

Important to note that #Measles (aka #Rubeola) is the 👉 Most Contagious👈 human disease that currently exists on the planet!

It is also one of the 👉 most preventable👈 with #Vaccines. Safe and effective vaccines I might add.

Any #deaths or #disabilities caused by Measles are completely unnecessary tragedies.

    From: ccjm.org/content/86/6/393.long (2019, hashtags added)

"Late sequelae of measles infection are related in part to serious mucosal damage and generalized immune suppression caused by the #virus. Even after recovery from acute infection, children can have persistent #diarrhea and #failure_to_thrive, with increased #mortality risk in the months after infection. #Tuberculosis can reactivate in patients already infected, and new tuberculosis infection can be especially severe. Further, tuberculosis skin tests become less reliable immediately after measles infection. Severe disease and fatalities are increased in populations that have baseline #vitamin_A deficiency and #malnutrition.

Death from measles is most often caused by viral #pneumonia, secondary bacterial pneumonia, and postviral #encephalitis.

👉 Before the vaccine era, measles encephalitis occurred in the United States in about 1 in 1,000 measles cases.👈

Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis is a rare, late, and often fatal complication of measles that presents 7 to 10 years after acute measles infection, usually in adolescence. Beginning with myoclonic jerks, stiffening, and slow mental deterioration, it progresses over 1 to 3 years, with a relentless degenerative course leading to #death. Since the introduction of the measles vaccine in 1957, this disease has essentially disappeared in the United States."

Think about that... with current trends, 7-10 years from now we'll be seeing young people dying of "sclerosing panencephalitis" again... and for what?!

  12. 20% of children in Gaza missing essential vaccines: UNRWA

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (#UNRWA) has announced an upcoming immunisation campaign for children in Gaza, one out of five of whom it says lack essential vaccines.

The campaign, aiming to reach 44,000 children, will also offer malnutrition screening.

  13. @treleanor While it's great to see attention on malnutrition in aged care, the root of the problem lies in the privatisation of the system. The focus on cost-cutting has led to seniors being treated like numbers, not people, and now we're turning to lupins, which feel more like livestock feed than proper nutrition. Real care means investing in quality meals and support for the elderly, not finding the cheapest solution. #malnutrition #agedcare #privatisation #elderlycare #qualitycare #costcutting #seniorhealth #nutritionmatters #lupins #dignityforall #healthoverprofit
