Yesterday's multifaith Prayer Walk for Immigration Justice at the Alfonse M. D'Amato United States Courthouse. The star symbolizes the The Epiphany of Jesus Christ, the context that the walk was held in. The prayer walk was held to "stand against the abuse of immigrants in our community." Who knows an #ornithologist I can ask a question to about American Robins? I have a series of images that shows an adult Robin, after coming back to the nest, reaching down with its beak and pulling a worm out of the gullet of a nestling and wonder if this is known behavior.

These are #LongIsland / #NewYork supermarket deli potato pancakes. Prepared as a #Passover specialty. It brings to mind the small kosher delis that sprinkled #Nassau and #Suffolk Counties. You can still find #knishes, rye bread, salt-cured #pickles. Harder to find the genuine versions in the retail clutter. Even bagels, as good as they are here, have become bigger and fluffier.

🍁 It's maple sugaring time. I worked it once during college break upstate New York not far from the 🇨🇦 border. Buckets of sap into a tank hauled by a tractor to the sugar shack for boiling.

The view out the clouded, #polymer #plastic window on a Long Island Rail Road train.They are sun-damaged from 30+ years.of south facing exposure. (Windows on the north side of the train are much clearer.) The trains run using paired EMUs (electrical motor units) and, apparently, never or very rarely change their orientation. Not sure why that is.

#Climatologists tell us that much of western #NorthAmerica is in the throes of a 1,000 year #drought. #Farmers in the #Midwest are facing deepening drought conditions putting wheat harvests at risk. #Kansas #PublicRadio reports that wheat harvests there may be the lowest in over 60 years! I've seen like this once before in #LakeTahoe in 2021. But as an easterner it's easy to rationalize that: "it's the west, the west is subject to forest fires." Long Island is not the west.

Images of commercial American landscapes are often interpreted within a narrative of a pathology of #spiritual sickness at the heart of #American culture. This is a very difficult narrative to get past. When I make an image like this, I'm not saying this is ugly or needs fixing. It's just what I saw and recreated in a way appealing to me.
