You will be able to use ftp to publish to any hosting that you can have, even free ones, using your own software or its sftp plugin.
I am working now on having reusable blocks, a layout editor, more plugins, etc. Also, code quality sucks... First we make it work, then we iterate!
It is NOT out yet. But when it is, it should be able to be compiled into an electron app [desktop] or a cordova app [mobile].

Lowtide includes some CSS only themes that kinda look nice, but allows more experienced users to use their creativity (a la 'zengarden').
You can also manually tweak the templates!
Static site generation means no unsightly javascript or hidden agendas!
Currently, the only scripts on my testing site are a theme changer (that reads a persistent value from localstorage) and a nice looking video player skin (that uses the Media API from HTML5) I made.

The user defines a content type (schema) with fields they will want on their publication. A template is then generated using nunjucks, following some basic rules. As is, the user can just create this and the system will give them forms to start creating content. All is saved to JSON files rather than other DB systems with the option to add support for them later as plugins.

So, my squirrely brain has been working on yet another static site generator that I call Lowtide (because that's when everyone can come to the sea and have an awesome time together).
It started as means to repost some interesting gym videos for my gym folks who don't have social media, and evolved into a content creation toolkit that is managed from an app on your device, not online.
It is messy, poorly written, themable, friendly, and has a plugin system...
